Child Study 3

Child A, a 7-year-old first grade student, was observed on multiple occasions to examine his behavior. During observations, Child A became emotional during spelling tests and story time, crying on some occasions. His handwriting and reading skills are improving, though he has good and bad days. The teacher is recommended to put students in groups to help Child A be more social and work together with others.

I.

Observation X
Child Study 3
II. Grade:
First
III. Students: 24 students
IV. Setting
First grade class
Same- age (7 year olds) classroom, 24 students, 1 head teacher.
V. Pre- Observation:
Observations were conducted on October 21st, 2016. This observation was to examine
and access a childs behavior. In order for me to prepare, I read Lucky Age 7: Why and
How Kids Change.
VI. Data:
Child As physical is the same. He's sensitive and emotional. As an example, he was
struggling on his spelling test. He wouldn't follow directions and was behind. The
teacher kept going and he missed a word. He told the teacher and he started to cry. Then
on my last day, I was reading them a book and he started to cry. He said, oh great, I'm
crying now. But its a good kind of cry. His handwriting is getting better and he is
reading great. Sometimes he has good days and sometimes he has bad days.
VII. Analysis:
When he gets a strike, he thinks about what he has done and how many strikes he has,
and then he does better. Child As listening skills have improved from the beginning of
the year. He is more aware when he gets in trouble and needs to fix his behavior. He tries
to help everyone and is very sociable. He corrects someone if he knows the answer but
they get it wrong. His vocabulary words are improving. It states, Verbal development
increases for both genders at the age of seven, but boys are still far less verbal than girls
their age ( Gurian).
VIII. Recommendations:
I recommend the teacher put the students into groups to work on school work or games.
This is help Child A to be more social and to work together and to help each other.

IX. Post- Observation:

It was an overall good experience observing Child A.
