Binary I/O connections

The cameras have one binary input and one binary output. These are connected using the
Alarm IOconnections on the camera.

Input: 5V 10k pull up

Output: Solid state opto-isolated relay (50V AC/DC)

For more information about the Alarm IOconnections, see "Connections" on page 10

2 Hardware Description

Binary input
The binary input is operated by an external switch:

10k Pull up input

Normally low

The input must be configured on the Web Configuration pages to ensure correct behavior.
For more information, see "Binary IO" on page 35
When using an external switch to trigger the input, connect the switch between the ALARM_
IN input and GND. When the switch is open the level is high. Close the switch to set the input
low.

For more information about pin numbering, see "Connections" on page 10

Binary output
The binary output is an opto-isolated solid-state relay:

Max load voltage: 50V AC/DC

Max current carrying capacity: 130mA

Max resistance: 20

For more information about pin numbering, see "Connections" on page 10

The binary output is not polarity sensitive and is normally open. This can be configured on the
Web Configuration pages.
For more information, see "Binary IO" on page 35

Power
Power is supplied to the camera by one of the following:

CAT5 Ethernet cable to the RJ45 connector from a PoEswitch (802.3af Class 0)
PoE can only be used during configuration and for installations where the minimum
operating temperature is above 0C.
For more information, see "Environment" on page 42

If using PoE, make sure Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) is in use on the network.

In some cases you may need to use an Ethernet crossover cable when connecting the
IPCamera directly to a PC.

Auxiliary power

5MP Fixed camera: DC12V to the power jack

HD Fixed camera: DC12V and AC 24V to the power terminal block

Bullet camera: DC 12V and AC 24V to the power terminal block

The external power supply is required to power the camera's heater for installations
where the operating temperature is below 0C.

For more information, see "Connections" on page 10

Using the incorrect power supply voltage can irrevocably damage the camera. Ensure that
the correct voltage is used. The required DCvoltage is lower than the required ACvoltage 12V for DC and 24V for AC.

3 Getting Started

Powering up the camera

During configuration the camera can be powered by PoE. Connect a CAT-5 Ethernet cable to
the RJ45 connector of the camera. Ensure the network is powered correctly.
For more information, see "Environment" on page 42
If Power over Ethernet (PoE) is not available the camera can be powered using the auxiliary
power.
For Bullet camera installations where the operating temperature is below 0C, the camera
must be powered using the auxiliary power.

5MP Fixed camera auxiliary power

For installations where PoE is not available, the camera use an external 12V DC power
supply.
For more information, see "Connections" on page 10
The power input to the camera is polarity sensitive, therefore a DC power supply must be
connected to the correct polarity.
Using the incorrect power supply voltage can irrevocably damage the camera. Ensure that
the correct voltage is used.

A 12V DC, 5A PSU with mains power lead can be ordered from IndigoVision.

HDFixed camera auxiliary power

For installations where PoE is not available, the camera uses an external 12V DC or 24V AC
power supply.
For more information, see "Connections" on page 10
The power input to the camera is not polarity sensitive, therefore a DC power supply can be
connected in either polarity.
Using the incorrect power supply voltage can irrevocably damage the camera. Ensure that
the correct voltage is used. The required DCvoltage is lower than the required ACvoltage 12V for DC and 24V for AC.

A 12V DC, 5A PSU with mains power lead can be ordered from IndigoVision.

OPERATIONS
This chapter describes common tasks required for the operation of the BX600 Fixed and
Bullet Camera.

Focus the camera using Control Center

The ambient temperature around the camera must be above -100 C (140 F) when performing
this procedure.

1. Add the camera to the Control Center site database ensuring you configure the Device
Access credentials.
2. Right-click the camera in the Site Explorer, select Properties > Video and Audio,
and select the appropriate Profile Token and Connection.
3. Right-click the camera in the Site Explorer and select View Video.
4. In the main window, click the Configuration tab.
5. Navigate to Video > Basic menu and use the Zoom and Focus options to focus the

Alternatively, you can access these pages through IndigoVisionControlCenter.
This functionality is only available if you have administrator permissions.

1. In Setup view, select the camera you want to configure.

2. Select the Configure tab, and enter a valid user name and password if required.
For more information, see "Configuration" on page 29

Setting up motion detection

The BX600 Fixed and Bullet Camera can generate an event when they detect motion in a
specified region in the scene. The event can trigger additional actions, such as a binary
output signal.
Motion detection is configured using the Web Configuration Pages. These can be accessed
using the IPaddress of the camera, or through Control Center.

User Guide - v8

25

5 Operations

Fixed and Bullet Cameras - BX Range

For more information, see "Configuring the camera" on page 25

1. Access the Web Configuration pages for the camera.
2. Navigate to Analytics >Motion Detection.
3. Select Motion Detection > On to enable motion detection. The Motion dialog opens.
This dialog displays activity.
4. Create region of interest windows to specify in which areas of the scene you want to
detect motion.
The area within all the windows defined is considered as the region of interest.

Click Motion Detection Windows >Add.

Select the window and drag the border to resize it.

5. Specify the Motion Detection Settings to set the sensitivity of detection.

Table 5: on page 26 provides a guide to setting the sensitivity.

CONFIGURATION
This section explains the various configuration options provided by the Web Configuration
pages for the following firmware versions:

3.2.x

Unless otherwise specified, each parameter applies to all variants.

Web Configuration pages

To access the Web Configuration pages, enter the IP address of your device into a web
browser. The Home menu is displayed.
IndigoVision products support Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 6 or higher
recommended).

To access any of the other configuration pages, click the required option in the menu on the
left of each page.

Home
This menu is read-only and provides a basic configuration overview of the unit.
This page is accessible to all users even if they are not authorized to access the other
configuration pages.

Network
Use this menu to configure the network settings for the unit. Click Save to apply any
changes.
Host Name Enter a name to identify this device. This name is used for the on screen

Fixed and Bullet Cameras - BX Range

IP address

Subnet mask

Default gateway

NTP

If the unit does not receive any response from the DHCP server it will default to using the
network parameters last successfully applied.
Control Center requires that the IP address for a unit in a site remains fixed. If the DHCP
server has been configured to lease addresses from an address pool, rather than based on
MAC address, the device will not work correctly with Control Center.

Use fixed IP address Allows you to enter the following Network parameters manually:

IP address

Subnet mask

Default gateway

Primary DNS

Secondary DNS

Use PPPoE Enter the user name and password required for PPPoE.
