1.1 The SecureTransport Family
SecureTransport is a family of secure file transfer software products which
helps in critical data interchange and automated document processing.
SecureTransport products provide high performance file transfer capabilities
and facilitate large-volume data movement. The SecureTransport family is
designed for the distribution and collection of commercially valuable files over
the Internet. SecureTransport products are fully compatible with FTP and HTTP
standards. In addition, SecureTransport integrates state-of-the-art security
standards such as Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and digital certificates (X.509).
SecureTransport is a client/server software, which consists of the
SecureTransport server and the SecureTransport client. The SecureTransport
server allows you to set up and maintain a secure file transfer site.
SecureTransport client turns your PC or UNIX workstation into a powerful,
secure, and reliable download and upload manager. SecureTransport client runs
both as a stand-alone application and as a web browser plug-in. SecureTransport
is scalable, which makes it an ideal building block for industrial-strength
extranet applications.
SecureTransport also guarantees extranet data delivery and data integrity while
protecting corporate bandwidth. The Auto Restart feature automatically re-
establishes broken connections and resumes transfers from where they were left
off.
The functionality of SecureTransport can be easily extended through
ActiveAgents™. ActiveAgents are transactional software agents that can initiate
events based on file transfers and can also feed information into back-end
applications such as databases, enterprise scheduling software, and network
printing operations. ActiveAgents also enable adding third-party functionality
to SecureTransport such as virus scanning, file format conversion, or additional
security mechanisms.
2 Chapter 1: Introduction

4.1 Overview
Remote sites are directories on a SecureTransport server that can be used to
transfer files. You can configure remote sites using the SecureTransport
Windows client. The configured remote sites are displayed in the Remote Sites
dialog box, from where you can access the remote sites for future sessions. This
is similar to adding a web site address as a bookmark in your Internet browser
application, from where you can access the web site for future use.
To access the Remote Sites dialog box dialog box, refer 2.1.1 Accessing the
Remote Site Explorer on page 14. SecureTransport allows you to:
• Add a remote site.
• Connect to a remote site.
• Store frequently used remote sites.
• Create a desktop shortcut for the remote site.
• Modify the details of an existing remote site.
• Duplicate an existing remote site.
• Delete a remote site from the list of configured remote sites.
The Site Label has to be unique and the user interface does
not allow two sites to have the same Site Label.
3. Choose the required transfer protocol for the remote site from the Transfer
Protocoldrop-down list. You can choose the FTP, HTTP, or HTTPS protocol.
4. Type the address of the remote site in the Site Host Address box.
5. Type the port number of the remote site in the Port box. By default,
SecureTransport Windows client assigns the following port numbers to
sites that are configured to use the FTP, HTTP, or HTTPS protocol:
• Port 21-FTP protocol
• Port 80-HTTP protocol
• Port 443-HTTPS protocol
2. Type the old password and the new password in the respective text boxes
provided.
3. Type the new password for confirmation in the Retype Password text box.
4. Click OK to complete the process of changing the password.
8. Click Apply. This applies the settings specified for the remote site.
9. Click the Check Notification button if you want to test your email
notification settings. A test email will be sent to the specified recepient(s).
The notification template is an XML template file. The XML template file
contains a group of substitution tokens, which are substituted automati-
cally with the attributes related to a file or folder transfer before sending
the email notification. Table 4.1 lists the tokens, based on the email notifi-
cation attributes.
The tokens shown in the sample XML file shown above are substituted with the
attributes related to a file transfer automatically and the email notification is sent
to the specified recipients.
Shown below is an example of email notification after the tokens are substituted
with the attributes in the XML template file.

5.1 Scheduling File Transfers
You can schedule file transfers (upload or download) using the Schedule feature
provided by SecureTransport Windows client. The Schedule feature supports
the following types of file transfer schedules:
• A transfer that occurs once in the future, known as an Absolute schedule.
• A transfer that is repeated at specific intervals, known as a Repeat
schedule.
• A transfer that is performed only when the specified conditions are
satisfied, known as a Limit schedule.
To perform the schedule immediately, click the (Now icon) present on any
of the tab panes of the Schedule dialog box.
If you only configure the end date without the end hour, the
transfer will be performed once in every repeat interval,
regardless of the current hour. When the specified end date
is reached, it will be deleted from the scheduler.

The URL Settings display the information from the selected profile. You
can change any information needed for the upload.
If you modify any of the fields, the profile name does not
appear in the Connection Profiles field.
3. Use the Protocol list to select a transfer protocol: FTP, HTTP or HTTPS.
This completes the process of adding files to the Send Files list.
This completes the process of moving files or folders in the Schedule Upload
dialog box.
If you choose to move files, the files are removed from the local directory and
placed in the remote site. If you choose to move the folders, the empty folders
are retained at the local directory after the transfer is completed.
If you do not want to remove the files or folders, click the Toggle Move button
again. The Move column now displays No.
To download files:
1. Select files with the mouse and place them at one of the following
locations:

the preferences as discussed in 3.2 General Preferences on page 31
is taken as the password if this option is selected.
8. Enter the path to the files you want to download in the Host Path field.
Path names are generally case-sensitive. If you specify a directory in the
Scheduled Downloads dialog box, the path can be left empty to specify the
root path. On Windows, the backslash (\) character is used in the file paths.
However, do not use the backslash character in the path field to delimit
path names. The FTP standard is the forward slash (/).
Some examples of path names are as follows:
• /example/joe/
• /pub/test/samples/
• /incoming/
When specifying path names, ensure that all path names are absolute path
names, from the root directory of the server. A path name that starts with a
forward slash (/) is not relative to the login directory. This dialog box fol-

This chapter describes the command line options available with the
SecureTransport Windows client and provides examples for using some of the
commands. In addition, examples of batch files written using command-line
options are also provided in this chapter. This chapter is organized into the
following sections:
7.1 Overview ..........................................................................................100
7.2 Command-line Options.....................................................................101
99
7.1 Overview
SecureTransport Windows client provides command-line options, which allow
you to use the command-line interface in Windows to communicate with the
SecureTransport Windows client. The command-line interface can be used as
an alternative to the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of SecureTransport
Windows client. Command line options are also useful for performing
unattended file transfers automatically using a series of command-line options
in a batch file.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of SecureTransport Windows
client to the current version (4.5.1), note that the persistent command line
options are not supported in this version. The options provided are active only
till the command-line interface window is open.
/prefASCExt “list of ASCII extensions” Use this option to specify a list of file
extensions for which text-mode
transfer must be used (see under
/prefASC).
Each extension must be prefixed
with a period, the extensions must
be separated with commas (no
spaces), and the entire list should
be surrounded by double quotes.
For example:
".txt,.log,.html,.htm"
; %3B
, %2C
/ %2F
? %3F
: %3A
@ %40
& %26
= %3D
For example, if you want to specify %40 in the URL, without making it a
substitute for @, you must specify %40 as %%40
The command shown in the example above performs a file upload using the FTP
protocol and requires you to supply a valid user name and password. The
options given in angled brackets (< >) have to be substituted with the respective
option provided in Table 7.3.
The following are the options passed to the command-line command.
Option Description
Option Description
The command shown in the example above uploads a file using the FTP
protocol and does not require you to supply the user name and password. The
Remote-Site command extracts the user name and password automatically from
the profile used, which is specified as tumbleweed in the command.
The following are the options passed to the command-line command:

B.1 FAQ
Why is the drag-and-drop file or folder option not functioning for uploads
or downloads?
Ensure that you have restarted the system after installing or upgrading
SecureTransport Windows client.
I selected the Show welcome message when connecting to remote sites option
in the General Preferences pane. When I connect to a remote site, I get the
<user> successfully logged in message box instead of the welcome message
I specified. How do I solve this?
If you are using the HTTP protocol, ensure that you have configured a
login agent in the HTTP server. For FTP protocol, ensure that the welcome
message is specified at the FTP server.
The SecureTransport server supports RFC 2228. How do I set this in the
SecureTransport Windows client?
SecureTransport Windows client does not support RFC 2228 FTP security
extensions.
When performing file upload to a remote directory, the file gets uploaded
under the remote directory if the remote directory exists. If the remote
directory does not exist, the file gets uploaded with the name of the remote
directory at the remote site. What must be done to resolve this?
