Simulation Prey Predator

This document summarizes a simulation done using STELLA software to model the prey-predator relationship between rats and barn owls. The simulation tracked the populations of rats, barn owls, and palm oil over time. Graphs of the results showed that as the rat population increased, so did the barn owl population, but then both would decrease as the rats were consumed. The rat population was influenced by the palm oil population, as palm oil provided food/habitat for rats. This dynamic simulation helped demonstrate the complex interactions between species in an agricultural landscape.

PREY-PREDATOR
In

ecology, predation describes a biological interaction

where predator which is an organism that is attacked.

Predators

may or may not kill their prey prior to

feeding on them, but the act of predation always
results in death of the prey.

When

prey are numerous their predators increase in

numbers, reducing the prey population, which in turn
causes predator number to decline.

Their

cycle

population eventually recovers, starting a new

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

GRAPH 1: MINIMUM POPULATION OF BARN OWL AND RAT

GRAPH 2: MAXIMUM POPULATION OF BARN OWL AND RAT

From the graph, the population of owl increased at the beginning. Then
suddenly decreased. This is related to the population of the rats. The rats is the
food sources for the owls. So, the higher the population of rats, the higher the
population of owl.

The population of rats are decreased at the beginning. Then it suddenly

increased. This is related the population of palm oil. The palm oil is a producer
while the rats are the consumer. So, the higher the population of palm oil, the

higher the population of rats.

The population of palm oil are related to the population of rats. This is because
the rats are the damaging agents. The higher the population of rats, the lower
the population of the palm oil.
