The voice that had always encouraged her for years had now
become a malicious cry demanding her to die.
Even the ongoing beeping noises from the machines were not
enough to block out the constant ringing of her inner voice throughout
her head. It never stopped and the topic never changed. I am about to
die. Nevertheless, the roaring ocean of nervousness churned that
churned inside of her was intervening every thought, which made it
extremely difficult to focus on calming herself down. Concentrating on
awakening the optimistic side of her internal voice was hard too,
especially knowing that the one thing you need the most when you are
in a hospital is not there at all.
She took a moment to look around the room and its bright white
walls to the cotton grey sheets at the edge of her bed, Although she
felt glad so many people were taking such good care of her, she felt
bored at times. I seriously need my chemistry set right now, she
thought.
Being the best student in her advanced chemistry class, she
found pleasure and relaxation in mixing solutions together to create an
entirely new concoction. For a little while in a very long time, she felt
her mind wander as she visions of ions and salts, atoms and molecules,
and chemical elements filled her mind. But even now, her strong
passion for chemistry was clothed in the continuous feeling of stress
and dread she felt since the first day at the hospital.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door signaled
the moment she had been waiting for. Theyre here, she realized, as
she summoned every positive memory she could muster, which had
always been easy for her, but now, it so much harder. Memory recalling
had always been easy for her, summoning them one by one and
storing them safely away, but now it was...hard. Some memories she
could recall, but all the others were now held back by a gate of
negativity. So, she did nothing else but tuck every memory safely
away, take a deep breath, and brace herself.
leaned over to try and touch her shoulder, Elysia turned away, much to
everyones surprise.
I think I need some time alone. I need to think this through, she
said, once again on the edge of tears.
Wait! said her mother. She quickly took something that she had
set on the table earlier. As she walked towards her, Elysia realized that
she was holding the most precious thing in her life.her chemistry
set!
We brought you this to cheer you up, she said setting the chest
of test tubes and stands and flasks on her bed. They then were
ushered out by the doctors.
As her doctor closed the door gently behind him, she was left like
how it was a few moments ago. Quiet and peaceful. Perfect conditions
for dying, she thought. No no no! She shook the thought from her head
and tried to focus on sucking in the peace and quiet in the room. She
needed to escape, and she knew exactly how.
She gently got out of bed and carried the box of chemistry tools
to the table next to the window. As she sat down on the stool and
started assembling her chemistry set, she noticed that a feeling, a new
feeling was rushing through her veins. A feeling that she had yearned
for, but was never there, a feeling of confidence.
She took out some materials to start creating her experiment,
which she had promptly decided would be an experiment with liquid
nitrogen. She got out some isopropyl alcohol, dry ice chips, and a 2gallon flask and started to pour the alcohol into the flask. However,
while pouring her mixture, she automatically felt the feeling again. It
was as if something had sucked inside of her and had melted into her
veins, and although it was sudden, it strangely felt relaxing for her.
Vibrations of what seemed like joy ran free inside of her.
Before long, her liquid nitrogen was ready, and with a couple of
more drops of alcohol, it was finally complete. Spreading a special mat
on the table, she tipped the thick block of steaming ice onto the towel.
However, she noticed that the relaxing sensation she had felt a couple
of minutes earlier was stronger than ever. I feel free! I feel so happy!
Why havent I felt this way before? The darkness that had been there
the whole time was nothing but forgotten and gone.
The feeling persisted and Elysia couldnt help but notice, despite
her happiness, that her hand was growing pale. All of a sudden, the
tinglings and vibrations paused as she realized with horror what was
Shouts, arguments, and pleas filled the room. Elysias head was
spinning. She knew that a little bit of nitrogen were in fire extinguishers
and it didnt harm anyone. Why couldnt they just leave her alone? Her
anxiety grew worse. How could she get this stuff out of her hands? She
attempted to shake it out, fling it out, but nothing succeeded.
Her frustration soon turned to a fury of anger. It bubbled inside
her and spread all over her, until it reached her hands. Her hands
started to burn, although it did not hurt and her mind began to fume,
although there were no flames. Her heart pounded with determination
and her eyes became as sharp as daggers. She felt the heat and was
sensing something entirely different.something furious. Something
wild, something flaming, something ready to spring out and attack. The
five seconds she had felt it had seemed like an eternity, she was so
confused and mixed up. What was happening??? Why dont they tell
me???? Why am I like this???? As she was trying to come to a
consensus, she found herself yelling,
WILL YOU GUYS QUIT IT???? Just leave me alone!!!!!
As soon as those words were said, a strong jet of white shot out
of her hands like a firework shooting off into the sky, a firefly that had
been freed from its jar, a ray of light that had been released from the
darkness She gasped as the jet of white shot straight across the room,
but she did not feel scared. She felt hints of freedom and rage at the
same time, but it seemed that the rage had taken over and expelled
the nitrogen right out of her hands.
The anger had totally left her, and as she quickly raised her
hands to about eye level, the paleness was gone too. As she realized
what had actually happened, shrieks of terror filled the room as
everyone dodged the shot just in time, except for her parents. She
gasped, realizing they couldnt dodge in time.
NO!!!! she yelled.
But it was too late.
The nitrogen shot them both in square the chest. They fell to the
floor, their hearts forever frozen.
As soon as they had been impacted, a cloudy and thick fog from
the impact dispersed quickly around the room. Doctors rushed around
the room, and many of them went straight to the parents and still
others hurried Elysia out of the room. She was crying, tears flowing
down her cheeks in rivers
Although many things were happening at the same time, the only
thing Elysia could remember in that moment was her scream of fury
and fear, and she found herself screaming one more time.
NO!!!!!!!.
