Tech Intergration Presentation

This document provides information about the website and application Zaption, which allows users to insert their own annotated pauses and questions into videos. It can be used with videos from sites like YouTube and Vimeo. The resource is generally applicable to secondary education standards and can promote communication skills. Younger students could use embedded questions to check comprehension of short videos. Older students could create their own Zaption presentations and learn where to insert questions to reinforce key points, driving student engagement. The integration idea is rated a 1 for younger students, as the tool would mainly be used by the teacher, and a 2 for older students, as it would enhance lessons through direct student use, though not necessarily transform lessons.

RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.
Zaption is a website and application that allows users to input their own annotated pauses and questions into videos.
These videos can be taken from any video-sharing website such as YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Embedded questions can
range from thoughtful pauses to multiple choice questions to open-ended questions. Zaption is a free resource open
to both teachers and students.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PRESENTATION

How might you use this resource in a lesson plan to promote students presentation/speaking/communication skills?
I probably would not use this resource in the lesson plan that I am currently using, but I would definitely use it in
future lesson plans. Zaption would be a great resource for younger students if you are having your them watch a
short video and want to have the video pause itself to gauge student comprehension. It is a great tool for giving
videos brief stopping moments to answer any questions or clarify any confusion.
For the older students, this would be a great tool to promote presentation / communication skills because they
would make their own Zaption presentation. Then, they would have to ask themselves where would be a good place
to ask a question to really drive any key points of their presentation home.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION

Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration you
described, using the selected resource?

Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

For the lower grade levels, I would rate Zaption a 1 on the value-added rating scale. While I believe this resource
would boost student engagement in a lesson, it would primarily be used by the teacher and is not overly helpful with
the upper levels of Blooms taxonomy. However, it is a great gauge to whether or not the students are paying
attention and making sure that everyone is on the same page during the lesson.
For the older students that would use this themselves I would rate it a 2. It would absolutely raise student
enhancement and be used primarily by the students, but it probably would not transform a lesson in a way that
would be impossible or very difficult without it.
