Lesson Summary:
This lesson will help the student develop many mathematic skills. The summary of the lesson is to help
improve any math skills such as counting, being able to identify numbers, providing what shape an item is and
being able to count up to 100.
Estimated Duration:
Duration of this math lesson will be estimated around 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week so that would be 150
minutes per week.
Commentary:
This lesson will help keep students motivated to learn and improve their math skills by adding a bit of fun into
the mix.

Instructional Procedures:

Day 1:
First 15 minutes: Introduce math software on iPads. (Software will be an app developed for Kindergarten

students specifically.)
Last 15 minutes: Review basic counting and shapes on application to prepare students for the pre-test. This
will give students time to get to know the app and how it works.
Day 2:
30 minutes: Students will take pre-test on application to allow me an idea to see where each student stands
academically with this specific subject. Application will provide 10 questions involving basic math skills for
kindergarten level. 30 minutes will be provided for the pre-test during day 2.
Day 3:
First 15 minutes: Students will review their test results with the application. Students will use headphones to
listen to application provide info on their results verbally; if student missed a question the application will
walk through the correct answer.
Last 15 minutes: Students will be broken up into different groups to work on mathematic skills together using
a smart board. There will be a mixture of questions to allow a mixture of answers.
Day 4:
30 minutes: Students will work with same groups as day 3 to work on different mathematic questions; this
allows team building and experience with the smart board. (Many different questions will be provided to help
allow learning in all core standards.)
Day 5:
30 minutes: Students will take the post assessment to see where each student has gotten over the last week to
determine percentage of improvement; This will be given every Friday to determine advancement in
mathematic skills. The post assessment will be provided on the application on the iPad with each individual.

Pre-Assessment:
During the pre-assessment stage we will do many different questions as a whole class. This will allow certain
students to provide their answers. This will be more of a warm up for the students. Students will have a formal
pre-test on the application on the iPad to determine where each student meets academically.
Scoring Guidelines:
Students will be scored on participation and how well they do on the application pre-test. This will give me an
idea on the students who are sincerely trying to learn the objective and then the individual pre-test on the
application will provide me with the accurate data on how well the students do on the ten question quiz. The
application will do the grading electronically and provide me with a graph placing every student on to
determine the average of answers and grades.
Post-Assessment:
Every Friday a post-test will be given electronically on the application with the iPad. This will be a bit longer,
15 questions to determine the improvement on each type of question given during that week. The students will
be provided with the whole 30 minutes for that lesson to attempt to finish the quiz.
Scoring Guidelines:

Just like the pre-test; the scoring will be done electronically by the application to provide me with a
graph resulting in the average improvement on the scores.

Differentiated Instructional Support

Instructional support will be provided if needed. The application can provide extra support by either being
used aloud or by using a speaking tool; if needed a student can provide their answer verbally if cant use the
application.

Extension
http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Ohios-Learning-Standards/Mathematics
This is the Ohio Department of Education Mathematic standards; Youd click mathematics standards under
Ohios learning standards to get an idea on what is standardized per grade level. This would allow
students/parents to get an idea on what topics we will be addressing. Students can prepare by going over these
topics before coming to class.

Homework Options and Home Connections

Every week after taking the post-test the students will be given an assignment via the learning app; based on
what the student gains during the week, the student will be assigned the topics that werent mastered and will
be provided with examples on the application. Once the subject is mastered the student can move on and finish
the assigned learning. These assignments will take roughly 30 minutes to finish; usually providing one each
weekend for homework. Examples of these questions would be simple counting, and/or providing the shape of
an object.

Interdisciplinary Connections
This mathematic lesson will help develop reading skills and language art skills because the students will be
identifying shapes and reading the correct numbers. This will help gain an understanding of reading and
writing numbers.

Materials and Resources:

For teachers

Smart Board and iPad.

The Smart board will allow students the chance to work together to solve problems and
the students individual iPads during class time will allow us to use the application to
