2.SoundCardSelection:Usethepulldownmenuto
selectthesoundcarddevicey ouwillbeusing with
AGWPE.Y oumayseeotherchoices,suchasatelephone
modem(don'tuse)oranotheranothercardify ouhave
two.
ImportantNote: Thisfield selectsthesound
deviceforreceive(recording)only.InWindowsXP
andearlier,thissetsthetr ansmitting (playback)
device,too ,sinceWindows assumesy ouwantto
usethesamesound deviceforboth.Butthis
doesn'tworkinWindowsVistaandmorerecent
versions,soy ouneed aworkaroundforsetting
thetransmit(pla yback)device.
3.Fornowlea vethe otherfieldsattheirdefaults:
FullDuplexDriver:TheFullDuplexDriverboxshould
bechecked.Mostrecentsoundcardsarefullduplex
capable.Ify oulater encountertransmitting
problems,youmayneedtouncheckthe FullDuplex
Driverbox.Thisislik elyto applyonlytooldersound

SoundCardClock:Thissettingisusedify ouhave
problemsreceivingdistant stationsseethe
Problemswith Receivingpageformoreinformation,

4.Notethat,b ydefault,AGWPEhascreatedtwosound
cardradioports.Toavoidfutureoperatingproblems,
changethesettingfrom DualPortto SinglePortinthe
TNCControlCommands sectionofthe Propertiesfor
Port1window.(Doesn'tapplyify oureallywillbe
connectingto2R adio).
Forasimple,firsttimeinstallation,allotherselections
canremain"asis"(use thedefaultselections),including
thoseinthe TncCommandstabwindowinthe Properties

forPort1windowandan yotherselectionsontheAGWPE
menu.
5.Nowpressthe OKbuttonatthebottomofthe
PropertiesforP ort1window.Youshouldgetapopup
messagetellingy outorestartthe program,soclickon
thePacketEngine icon
onceagainand select' Exit'.
NowrestartAGWPE.The PacketEngine icon
should
onceagainappear,butinadditiony oushouldnowseea
TNCicon
nextto it.Thisnewiconrepresentsy our
newsoundcardRadioP ort.
d.EditingaPort'sProperties
IfyouwanttochangeasettingintheR adioP ort's
configuration,clickontheAGWPEicontocall upthe
menu,select Properties ,andthenclickonther adioport
youwanttochange.Thenclick OKandeditthefieldsin
thePropertiesfor Portxwindow.
e.Problems?
Anytimeyouhavetroublestartingorconfiguring
AGWPE,itisoftenbesttocloseAGWPEand delete
all port*.inifilesandthe agwpe.ini fileiny our
AGWPEdirectory/folder.Thenrestartand re
configureAGWPEfromthev erybeginning.
Ifyoudon'tseethis TNCicon
,youprobably
haveaconflictwithanotherprogr amordevice:
MakesurethattheCOMorLPTporty ouhave
selectinAGWPEisnotalreadydedicatedto
anotherdevice,forexample,an internalmodem
orprinter)orhasbeen"captured"b yanother
program(forexample,yourPalmPilot's"Hot
SyncManager".You'llha vetoresolv eany

disablingthedevice,or selecting anotherport
forAGWPE'sPT Tcontrol.
Makesurethatnootherprogr amisrunningand
usingthethesoundcard.
