Features of Functions Project

This document provides instructions for a math module project involving graphing functions. Students must graph four different functions that meet specific criteria. For the first three graphs, the criteria are provided. For the fourth graph, the student must come up with their own three criteria. The graphs must be drawn on one sheet of graph paper and clearly show the line for the function as well as any decorations. Students will be graded on accurately graphing the functions based on their criteria and the creativity and neatness of their decorations.

Integrated Math I/II!

Module 3 Project: Features

of Functions!
!

!
For this project you will be using what we have learned about features of functions to create your own
graphs of functions. You will then decorate each graph, using the features/shape of the graphs to create a
design of your choice. The line for your function must be easily identifiable (use a black marker or
something that will stand out against your decorations).!

!
You will need to create a total of four different graphs meeting certain criteria. The criteria needed for
each graph is below:!

!
!
!

1) This function has a value at f(2) that is positive; f(-2) = 0, f(x) is always increasing; and !
has a domain of All Real Numbers. !

!
!

2) For this function, f(3) > f(6); f(1) = 0; f(2) = 4; f(x) is increasing from [-5,3) and nowhere ! !
else; has a domain from [-5,10].!

!
!
!
!
!
!

!
!
!
!
!
!

3) This function has a constant rate of change; and f(5) = 0.!

4) Create your own conditions. You must have a total of three criteria that your graph follows. !!
Write in your three conditions below:!
!

a) ______________________________________________________________!

!
!
!

!
!
!

b) ______________________________________________________________!
!
c) ______________________________________________________________!

!
Your graphs must all fit on one sheet of graph paper (divide each side of the paper into two graphs).
20% of your maximum grade will be deducted if turned in late. Copy each of the features listed above onto
your graph paper underneath the corresponding graph.!

!
!

Everybody's graphs will be unique. Your graph (NOT JUST THE DECORATIONS) should look
DIFFERENT than your peers graphs. You will be graded on the following criteria:!
