Preparing for Lesson Development


1. What does your pre-assessment observation indicate about your
students needs and current performance and educational needs?
The pre-assessment showed that the students could did not know how to
read music notes.
2. How will you design the lesson to meet the needs of all learners in
your classroom? I will design this lesson to meet all the needs of the
learners by having the students ask questions, reference the whiteboard, and
work together in partners.

I will capture the attention of the students by
reading the book, "What Makes Music?" The
students will gather on the carpet, I will read the
book while showing the class the illistrations. After
I read the book, I will ask the students how the
story made them feel. (Happy, excited, sad, etc.)
We will discuss if music can also have these effects
on our feelings. If they say yes, I will ask them to
elaborate. I will ask them how slow music effects
their emotions compared to energetic music.

lesson by writing the symbols that represent a
whole note, half note, quarter note, eigth note, half
rest, and quarter rest on the board. I will ask the
studetns to raise their hands and tell me what
each symbol represents. Once all of the smbols are
written on th board, I will check for understanding
by having the students fill out a worksheet.
To check for understanding of the music notes, I
will handout the color by notes worksheet. The
students are to reference the board and our
previous discussion to color the worksheet.If any
questions arise, the students will raise their hand
and I will answer the question to the class.

Once the students are done with the worksheet,


we, as a class, will play the Rythym Cat game on
the teacher computer while it shows on the
smartboard. I will play the first two rounds while
students watch to give them a better
understanding of how the game works, as well as
the rules.

Once the students understand how to play the


game, they will pair up and play the Rythym Cat
App on a shared Ipad.The Rhythm Cat App works
by showing a line of music notes that flow across
the screen in a slow or fast motion. At the top of
the screen, it will specify which note to click on. As
the students progress through the levels, the
number of notes increases and the letters above
the note disappears.This requires one to remember
what the note looks like. Each student will get 10
minutes on the Ipad before switching with their
partner.

I will wrap up the lesson by ensuring that each
student had a chance to play the game. We will
discuss music notes and how to identify each.

Evidence of Lesson Effectiveness/Student Learning: The lesson showed htat the


students learn very well while using the Ipads. They were able to grasp the concept of music
notes, and they could clearly identify them during the closure section of the lesson.

Reflection and Recommendations for Next Time: This lesson had a great impact
overall. One thing I could do differently is try to access enough Ipads for each student. This
would allow them more time to play the game.
