MEMB322 Mechanical Design Process: Mini Project Complex Engineering Problem Statement

This document provides a mini project for a mechanical design process class. Students are tasked with designing a new baby stroller or pram that incorporates innovative features to attract customers, while considering ergonomics, sustainability, and relevant government policies. Existing methods of transporting children are briefly outlined, noting that strollers and prams generally differ based on whether the child lies down or sits facing forward.

Problem Statement

Various methods of transporting children have been used in different cultures and
times. These methods include prams, infant car seats, portable bassinets (carrycots
in British English), strollers (pushchairs), slings, backpacks, baskets, and bicycle
carriers.
To date, these wheeled devices are generally divided into prams, used for newborn
babies in which the infant normally lies down facing the pusher, and strollers,
which are used for the small child up to about three years old in a sitting position
facing forward.
Design a baby stroller or pram that has new features that are able to attract new
customers and users. Do take into consideration the ergonomics factors, impact
to sustainable development and any relevance to government policy in your
design.
