From the Pastor

Can you believe it, Thanksgiving is this Thursday! I know, it is not a

religious holiday, but there is much to connect it to the way we have been
blessed. One year in Venezuela, it was 'our turn' to cook the Thanksgiving
turkey. Having grown up on a farm I remember seeing mom put the turkey
in the oven but I was unsure of all the details. We did not have Facebook or
Pinterest to give any suggestions, however, with the combined knowledge
'us guys' had we put together the traditional dinner for the missionaries
who were working in Barquisimeto and those who drove from the other
mission towns.

As we celebrate Mass each day, we are giving thanks to God for the many
graces and blessings that we receive. The other evening at the Mass with
the teens I spoke of investment; how much are we willing to invest in our
spiritual lives in order to recognize that God has blessed us. As you gather
with your families you have invested in travel or time in order to have the
benefit of time with family. Each weekend we are given the opportunity to
invest a bit of our time and effort to spend some 'quality time' with the
Lord. This quality time is our way of saying thank you or giving thanks,
Eucharist.
As we celebrated Thanksgiving in the mission, we remembered our families
at home and how we were blessed to be part of a new family in the
mission. As we celebrate Mass each weekend we can remember how we are
blessed to be a part of the Church Family that we call home. May we
continue to be united in this family.
