Describe the instructional activities that will occur prior to the SRS activity and how you will
introduce the SRS activity: The instructional activities that will occur prior to this SRS activity will
include briefly reviewing the American symbols that we have covered and small group discussions about
the content. As a class, we will go over the terms using images and flashcards to help remember each
symbol. Then I will introduce the SRS by explaining the directions for using the iRespond system, and pass
out the clicker devices to every student. The students will receive their own login codes before beginning
the short assessment that the teacher will lead and read through as they go along.

Identification of students:
Students will log-in so their individual scores will be available to you after the session
SRS activity will be anonymous
Briefly describe what will happen during the SRS activity: During this activity, students will follow
along with their teachers instruction while using their individual clickers to assess their overall
knowledge on the significant American symbols through a student response system called iRespond.
Students will work through the 10 questions on their own and report their answers via clicker. The teacher
will read each question, and allow time for students to think and respond before moving onto the next
question. The teacher may give clues to help struggling students.

STUDENT RESPONSE AND ASSESSMENT TOOLS

Provide samples of questions/prompts to be given to students: A few examples of the questions that I
might give to students would be The American flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes. What do the 50 stars
represent?, What is the national bird of the United States?, The ______ is located in the harbor of New
York City, holds a torch high in her hand, and represents liberty., What is the proper name of the national
anthem of the United States of America?, and The ______ is the official residence and principal
workplace of the President of the United States.
Right/Wrong Answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
Mixed (Some will have correct answers, others will not.)

Yes

No

Immediate corrective feedback:

Will you pre-select correct answers to some or all the questions and display correct response to the class
after the SRS activity?
Yes
No
Why or why not? I decided to pre-select correct answers to all my questions so I would be able to display
the correct responses to the class after the activity for students to see what they may have missed and what
the answer should be for that question. This will help students learn from their tougher questions and allow
them to improve on the next assessment.
Use of data: What data will be collected because of this activity? The data collected will be the students
right or wrong answers which will show their understanding of the material. How will it be used and by
whom? (For example: Will information collected from this activity be used to award a grade? Will the
individual information collected be shared with students and/or parents to help them monitor individual
progress?) I would more than likely use this information to award improvement, in addition to sharing
student progress. Will you discuss the aggregate, anonymous data with the whole class to help them learn?
Will you use data to differentiate instruction for students, if so describe how)? Yes, I would use the
anonymous data to help the entire class learn from their mistakes and advance in the future.
Describe what will occur after the SRS activity: After the SRS activity, I will collect all the clickers,
and then examine the questions and responses with the students for them to see what they may or may not
have missed on the test. We will fully analyze the test and take more time on any commonly missed
questions.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. (For example: What are you trying that you have
not tried before? What do you hope to learn from this activity? How do you hope it will help students learn?
You must design something that will help you learn something new. Honor system!) My personal learning
goal for this activity is to try new activities and different ways for students to learn. I have never used
iRespond before, but I found it to be very interesting and a simple tool for assessing student knowledge. I
am eager to see how the students will perform, in addition to how well they like this form of assessment. I
would more than likely create an honor system or some type of reward for students who succeed as well as
those who may need some guidance.
Other comments about your SRS activity (optional): I have no other comments about my SRS activity.
