SAP BW/4HANA
SAP BW/4HANA is a data warehouse solution that is highly optimized for the SAP HANA platform. It offers a
managed approach to data warehousing. This means that prefabricated templates (building blocks) are offered to
build a data warehouse in a standardized way.
1.1
Meta Data Management
Table 1:
Feature
Description
Create models
Create meta data entities (characteristics and key fig
ures)
Model master data and its attributes and hierarchies
Model persistence objects for transactional data and
master data
Create virtual objects to combine objects
Organize meta data objects in data flows to build logical
modeling units
Create queries
Create queries by selecting and combining characteris
tics and key figures or reusable query elements on top of
the model as a basis for multi-dimensional data analysis
Deployment of models
Organize objects using packages to transport from devel
opment to production
Record and deploy changes of objects

Feature
Data acquisition
Feature Scope Description - SAP BW/4HANA
SAP BW/4HANA
Description
Load data from various sources (such as a file, DB table,
SAP ERP, SAP S/4HANA)
Manage loads by a unique ID, called request TSN (trans
action sequence number)
PUBLIC
Feature
Data propagation
Scheduling
Data lifecycle management
Description
Load data between BW persistence objects and trans
form data
Support propagation of changed data
Track change history of persistence objects
Filter out erroneous data
Define the sequence of data processing tasks
Scheduling and execution (serial or in parallel)
Process management to track the status of each task and
support a load status for each persistence object
Manage multi-temperature data, e.g. hot-warm-cold data
for persistence objects
Relocate warm data, based on range partitions to SAP
HANA scale-out configuration
Relocate cold data, based on extended time slice parti
tions per persistence object, either
to SAP IQ Near-line Storage (near-online) or
to SAP Hadoop NLS (near-offline)
using SAP HANA data federation technology in both
cases.
Monitoring & troubleshooting
Expose data
PUBLIC
Monitoring the different processes based on persistence
objects and modeled process sequences
Rollback of data loads
Restart of data loads
Generate database views for SAP HANA to enable SQL
access
Define export format as files, DB tables or other SAP BW/
4HANA-Systems
Schedule export of data considering changed data

Analytic Manager
Table 3:
Feature
Description
Analyze data
Support enhanced business semantics
1.4
Interpreting the query definition and the current naviga
tion state
Multi-dimensional analysis of data
Read data from BW providers and SAP HANA DB views
by using filters
Apply aggregation, calculations and conversions
Apply sorting and ranking
Use master data and hierarchies
User-specific access management
Support of standardized external interfaces (incl. certifi
cation)
Inventory key figures and stock cover reports
Elimination of internal business volume
Special time semantics (e.g. fiscal times)
Currency translation and unit calculations
Agile Information Access
Table 4:
Feature
Description
Create local data area
Create data area for business user local data
Add local data
Upload data to local data provider
Add semantics (link to BW meta data)
Add local master data and hierarchies
Cleanse data
Create models to combine local and central data ware
house data
Combine local and central data
