PROJECT OUTLINE
Project title

: Gravity Light

Introduction
: Many rural parts of India face problems due
to very frequent electricity cuts. This prototype could pave a way
for creating a cheap and easy solution to this problem by just
hanging a weight and lighting homes with its energy.
Brief description : In this prototype, the gravitational potential
energy of a falling weight will be converted into electric energy for
lighting an LED bulb. A gearbox is used to increase the amount of
time the weight takes for falling down. A rough flow chart is given
below:

According to rough calculations, by taking the worst possible case


(30% efficiency), a typical 0.125Watts LED bulb can be lit for
about 10 minutes by 10 kilograms weight falling from 3 meters
height.
