Week 1 Journals

Zainab Ahmad began her teaching practicum (TP) by meeting with the principal to determine she would teach grade 4, section 3. She spent her first few days collecting information about the class, meeting teachers, and taking the students' name list to create name cards. In her second week, Zainab started teaching part of a word problems lesson and discussed effective behavior management strategies with her mentor teacher, as the students in this section were quite active. On Wednesday, the principal told the student teachers they could no longer sit in the teachers' room and had to move to an uncomfortable stage area, making preparation with their mentor teachers more difficult.

TP Journal Zainab Ahmad Autumn 2016

Week 1 Journals
Sunday 9th of Oct. 2016
This is my first day in TP. As every TP, I used the first day to talk with the
principle to decide which grade Im going to teach. In this TP, Ill teach grade
4 section 3. I walked around the school and collect some information about
the section. I get the schedule. I met English and Science teachers. I didnt
met Math teacher because they had math lesson first two period and I was
busy in the morning talking with the principle.

Monday 10th of Oct. 2016


This day the second day and I need to talk with math teacher because in this
TP Ill be focus in math. I decided to set with her in teachers room. We talked
about the curriculum, the material that she use in the classroom. Also, I take
students names list to do card for each student to remember their names. It
was a challenge for me to memorize students names. But it become a
positive challenge for me because when I call students with their names I
saw That makes them feel comfortable and more able to interact with me.

Tuesday 11th of Oct. 2016


In Tuesday, I think that I have to start teaching as soon as I can. Because I
need to be familiar with students. MST told me that I will teach a part of
word problems lesson in a whole period. So, I start think of activities,
strategies of solving word problems and behavior management. Because
students in this section are active. So, I discuss with my MST about the
effective ways that she use to control them.

Wednesday 12th of Oct. 2916


In last three days my colleagues and I were sitting in teachers room. But
today the principle told us to leave the teachers room and sit in the school
stage that wasnt comfortable for us. Also, when we were in teachers room
we were sit more with our MSTs and prepare for the lessons with her.
Although we had this challenge, we walked to their room twice a day to get
the information that we need and to learn.
