LFC Modelling Part 3

The hydraulic amplifier uses a pilot valve and main piston to convert low power pilot valve movement into high power piston movement, allowing the steam valve to be opened or closed against high pressure steam. A linkage mechanism with pivoted rigid links provides proportional movement to the control valve based on speed changes and feedback from the steam valve. The speed changer sets the steady state power output by opening or closing the upper pilot valve through downward or upward movement to admit more or less steam to the turbine under steady state conditions.

2.2.

1 HYDRAULIC AMPLIFIER
It comprises a pilot valve and main piston arrangement. In this low power level
pilot valve movement is converted into high power level piston valve movement.
This is necessary in order to open or close the steam valve against high
pressure steam.
2.2.2 LINKAGE MECHANISM
ABC is a rigid link pivoted at B and CDE is another rigid link pivoted at D.
This link mechanism provides a movement to the control valve in proportion to
change in speed .It also provides a feedback from the steam valve movement.
2.2.3 SPEED CHANGER
It provides a steady state power output setting for the turbine. Its downward
movement opens the upper pilot valve so that more steam is admitted to the
turbine under steady state conditions (hence more steady state power output).
The reverse happens for the upward moment of the speed changer.
