Have Hydrostatic releases on liferafts been serviced
within the past 12 months?
Are the liferaft painters and hydrostatic releases
connected via a weak link?

Is liferaft arranged so that it floats free (e.g., not tied
up/lashed down with rope)?

Has the anchor windlass been checked for worn
brake linings?
Has the ballast stripping educator pipe been
checked for leaks?

used for what they are designated for? (e.g. of a
problem, crews gym being used as an engine room
store.)

Are all engine room bilges clean and free of oil?
Is the steering gear compartment clean and free of
garbage and oil?

vessel, are they in good working order?

This checklist has been compiled from the ABS database showing all the reasons a vessel has been detained. Therefore, not all
systems and equipment may be addressed if no related deficiency has shown up. The checklist is meant to be only an aid for the
Master in determining maintenance requirements on board the vessel. It is expected the Master will determine the complete
condition of the vessel, its equipment, and machinery with the help of the Chief Engineer and the vessels crew.
