Course Catalog Description

Urban Design is about designing and working on a larger scale of open spaces such as groups of buildings,
streets and public spaces, whole neighborhoods and districts, and entire cities, it is about shaping cities, towns
and villages with the goal of making urban areas functional, attractive, and sustainable.
It is also about making connections between people and places, movement and urban form, nature and the built
fabric. It is about enduring vast and rapid changes that hit and shaped the environments. It is an interdisciplinary subject that unites all the built environment professions, including urban planning, landscape
architecture, architecture, civil and municipal engineering. Urban design draws together the many strands of
place-making, environmental stewardship, social equity and economic viability into the creation of places with
distinct beauty and identity.
