A. Shear and Moment Diagram: Draw The Shear and Moment Diagrams For The Beam Shown. Segments AC and CE Are Connected by Pin C

The document contains solutions to three problems involving structural analysis: 1) Drawing shear and moment diagrams for a beam with non-uniform loads. 2) Calculating reactions and maximum shear stress for a shaft under torsion. 3) Determining displacement of an end-loaded bar supported by two rods. Analytical methods like equilibrium of forces and moments, compatibility of deformations, and constitutive equations are used to set up and solve the governing equations for each problem.

A. Shear and Moment Diagram: Draw the shear and moment diagrams for the beam shown.
Segments AC and CE are connected by pin C.

M C = (150 0.1) 2
0.1 + ( Dy ) ( 0.2 ) ( 50 ) (0.3) = 0

Therefore, Cy = 12.08 kN, Dy = 79.58 kN.

Therefore, Ay = 6.41 kN, By = -5.99 kN.

B. Torsion: Shaft ABC is supported by fixed supports at points A and C. If the applied torsion in
point B is T= 10 Nm: (a) determine the reactions at A and C; (b) find the maximum shear stress
in the shaft. The diameter of segment AB is 20 mm and its length is 100 mm. The diameter of
segment BC is 10 mm and its length is 50 mm. The shear modulus of elasticity is 75 GPa.

The variation of the torque along shaft ABC is illustrated in the diagram below:
TA

TC

By establishing equilibrium:

M =T

10 + TC = 0 TC = 10 TA

(Eq. 1)

Since the supports are fixed, the rotation of end C with respect to A is zero (compatibility).
Therefore:

AB = BC
8.488 108 TA = 6.791 10 7 (10 TA ) = 0
TA = 8.89 N m
TC = 1.11 N m
The maximum shear stress is given by:

C. Axially-loaded members: The bar shown in the figure is pinned at B and supported by two
rods, each having an area of 100 mm2 and a modulus of elasticity E = 60 GPa. If the bar is
assumed to be rigid and initially horizontal, determine the displacement of the end A when a
force of 20 kN is applied.
