AC Assignment2

This document contains an assignment on analog communication techniques. It includes 8 questions covering topics like amplitude modulation, spectrum analysis, modulation using nonlinear devices, double sideband suppressed carrier modulation, envelope detection, single sideband modulation, and the effects of carrier frequency offset and phase noise in quadrature amplitude modulation receivers. The document provides signal expressions, circuit diagrams and asks the reader to analyze spectra, determine modulation indices, and derive receiver output expressions for various modulation schemes.

Consider the message signal () = 20cos(2) volts and the carrier signal
c() = 50cos(100) volts.
a) Give the time domain expression for the resulting convectional AM for 75%
modulation index.
b) Find the power developed across a load of 100 ohms due to this AM wave.
Consider the two modulated signals x1 (t ) [2 E1 cos(2f m t )] cos(2f c t ) and

x2 (t ) [ E2 cos(2f m t )] cos(2f c t ) .
a) sketch the spectrum of each signal
b) Determine E1 and E2 to produce 100 % modulation and same average power for both.

Suppose non-linear device are available for which the output 0 and are related
by 0 = 1 + 3 3 where 1 and 3 are constants .Explain how this device can
be used to produce DSBSC modulated wave

Figure shows a DSBSC modulator, where m(t) is a signal band limited to B Hz .

Design this DSBSC modulator to generate a modulated signal () t.
a) What kind of filter is required in figure Q4?
b) Determine the signal spectra at points b and c, indicate frequency band
occupied in these spectra.
c) Would this modulator work with carrier signal ( ) for any integer n?
