Microsoft Windows 7 Operating System/Windows


- a software that helps us operate the computer system easily.
- it uses graphics or pictures to show commands and programs
PROGRAM a set of instructions that the computer follows to perform tasks easily
MOUSE main tool used in Windows
Mouse Functions:
1. Ponting placing the mouse pointer over the object that one wants to click
2. Clicking pressing the left mouse button once
3. Double-clicking pressing the left mouse button twice and fast
4. Right-clicking clicking the right button once
5. Dragging pressing the left mouse button while moving the selected object to a different
place
6. Snap arranging windows side by side by just dragging it
7. Aero Shake used to quickly minimize every open window except the one youre shaking
ELEMENT OF THE WINDOWS MICROSOFT 7:
1. Desktop overall working area in Windows
2. Desktop Icons small pictures on the desktop that represent programs
3. Start Button located at the bottom of the Windows screen; it shows the Start menu.
4. Taskbar rectangular bar located at the bottom of the desktop
5. Wallpaper this is the background picture on the desktop
6. Notification Area It contains the icons for setting the volume, date, and time
7. Gadgets small programs located at the side of the screen that provides easy access to
frequently used tools
PARTS OF THE COMPUTER WINDOW:
1. Back Button used to go back to the previous content of the window viewed
2. Forward Button used to go to the next content of the window viewed
3. Refresh Button used to load the window again
4. Toolbar bar that shows different command buttons to make them ready for use
5. Menu bar consists of menus which contain sets of commands that can be easily used
6. Address bar located at the top of every folder that shows your current location
7. Preview Pane pane in a window that shows the content preview of the currently
selected document

8. Navigation pane area found on the left side of a folder window that displays an
expandable list of folders
9. Folder window displays the content of a window
Control Buttons:
10. Close Button lets you exit the active window
11. Minimize Button will make the window a small bar
12. Restore button returns the window to its original size
13. Maximize button makes the window big enough and fills the entire screen
14. Details Pane shows the details of the active window
Calculator is a small device used to make mathematical calculations.
Types of Calculator:
1. Standard Calculator an ordinary calculator that uses the four basic operations
(+) for addition
(-) for subtraction
(*) for multiplication - asterisk
(/) for division slash
2. Scientific Calculator it uses four basic operations and can remember numbers stored
in its memory. It has more buttons.
MR (Memory Recall) shows the number stored in memory
MS (Memory Save) stores the number in the memory
MC (Memory Clear) clears any number stored in the memory
M+ (Memory Add) adds the displayed number to the number stored in memory
M- (Memory Subtract) subtracts the displayed number to the number stored in the
memory
WORDPAD a basic word processor that allows you to create documents using computer
Word Processor an electronic equivalent of paper, pen, and eraser that you can use to
create, edit, view, and print documents
Document refers to a short note or a long report that is written using a word processor.
Parts of WordPad Window:
1. Title bar a bar located on top of the window that indicates the name of the program
and the name of the document
2. Application icon a small icon that represents the open program
3. Control buttons
a) Minimize button turns the window into a small bar and places it on the taskbar
b) Maximize button makes the window big enough to fill the screen
c) Restore button returns the window back into its original size

d) Close button it exits the program


4. Quick Access Toolbar consists of different buttons that can be shown or hide for
quick use.
5. WordPad Button consists of basic commands like saving, opening, printing, and
exiting
6. Tabs set of commands. Home Tab and View Tab.
7. Ribbon the strip across the top of the window that shows different commands
8. Function group placed on the ribbon that consists of different sets of command
9. Ruler sets the margins of the document
10. Text area a blank area wherein you type the text
11. Cursor blinking line that indicates where the text will appear
12. I-Beam a mouse pointer that tells you where the character will appear
13. Status bar shows the status of the document
Microsoft Paint one of the most commonly used programs in Accessories that lets you
draw electronically using the computer.

Parts of the Microsoft Paint:


1. Application Icon an icon placed on the title bar that represents the Paint program
2. Title bar a bar on the top of a window that shows the name of the program
3. Minimize button shrinks the Paint window to a small bar and places it on the taskbar
4. Restore button returns the Paint window to its original size
5. Close button exits the Paint Window
6. Paint button located above the ribbon, consists of basic commands like saving,
opening, printing and exiting
7. Tabs part of the Paint window that shows sets of commands, Home tab and View tab
8. Quick Access Toolbar consists of different buttons that can be shown or hide for
quick use.
9. Ribbon a rectangular bar below the title bar with tools and commands
10. Function Group placed on the ribbon that consists of different sets of commonly
used command buttons
11. Drawing area an electronic canvas where you can make drawings
12. Status bar shows the status of the drawing

2. Show /Hide Group composed of other parts that can be shown or hide
3. Display group composed of different views that can be applied on Paint window

Eraser erases part of your picture


Fill with Color fills up the whole picture or an enclosed shape with colors
Color Picker picks a color from the picture and uses it for drawing
Magnifier changes the magnification of your drawing
Pencil draws thin and freeform lines or curves
Brush used to draw different kinds of brushes
Text used to type text into the picture
Shapes ready-made shapes that you can add to your drawing
