Giving Consumers Truly Portable Media Files

Gibson is proposing a technology that would allow consumers to use their media files anywhere they
live and work and in any of the variety of devices that they use in their life. By enabling portability and
enhancing usability of entertainment files, the files become more valuable and create new business
opportunities (increased revenues and profits) for owners of the entertainment media, aggregators,
channel suppliers and equipment makers.

Currently, the use of entertainment files is intentionally restricted to very specific use cases by
the sellers of these files. As an example Apple songs purchases as AAC protected files cannot be
easily converted to a format that works in a non ITunes environment. DVD movies are not
supposed to be extracted from the physical disk Similar silos are created by the mobile phone
carriers, cable companies, and movie studios [locking content to physical media].

We believe there are two reasons that commercial interests have gravitated to the silo
approach. One, the owners of the entertainment media have a great fear of wide scale
distribution of these files to consumers who do not pay for the use of the files. Secondly,
aggregator/sellers of content and equipment makers wish preserve a business advantage and
lock in their customers to their proprietary approach.

Gibson has developed technology that will give consumers the ability to experience their entertainment
content literally in any of their personal devices anywhere while insuring that a legitimate transaction
took place. Our approach allows the content files to be enhanced with features and benefits that create
great value for the consumer and allow new profit opportunities for all commercial interest involved in
this market place. We want to empower the user and remove the hassle of experiencing content. Our
approach will not disrupt those companies which seek to gain a proprietary advantage.

Gibson’s Take Anywhere Technology TM (TAT) requires the consumer to install an application called
PlayFriendTM on their media server device. This application then communicates with TAT servers to
authenticate and register the consumer’s devices and TAT content files. This application is very simple
and requires little to no consumer attention. The TAT process simply does the following:

1. PlayFriendTM allows the consumer to authenticate and register their devices with Gibson’s TAT
servers.
2. TAT content files are registered and watermarked with a unique proof of purchase ID and the
unique device ID of the consumer’s media server. This occurs when they are first copied from
physical media or downloaded.

3. Content that is registered can then be passed freely to the consumer’s registered devices.

Birth of an Empowered Media Server with PlayFriend TM

Entertainment files [movies, TV shows, music, games] need to reside somewhere. The most convenient
place to store these files is in the home. It is our belief that the place these files will be stored will be a
media server device that will also act as a gateway to the outside world via the internet. We propose to
make each media center device secure, allowing the consumer the ability to distribute files for personal
use to any device used in their lives and in any format the consumer’s devices require.

The TAT approach requires the consumer to install an application we call PlayFriend TM on their media
server. This application will automatically connect with a Gibson TAT server. The server will
authenticate the device and issue a unique media server device ID. This will authorize this media server
to make copies of TAT files or stream TAT content. This transaction is recorded and stored by our TAT
server.

Once the media server is authorized, it can use PlayFriend TM to authorize up to 20 devices which can
access the consumer’s media server to make a copy of the media server’s content or receive a stream
from the server. These 20 devices will have unique device ID’s which will be registered with the TAT
server by PlayFriendTM.

TAT content will have a watermark indicating it is a TAT file. When the TAT file is purchased or acquired
it will come with a unique proof of purchase serial number which is either already embedded in the file
in the form of a watermark, or will come with a serial number which has to be entered into PlayFriend TM
before it can be copied. The first time the file is copied it will be registered by PlayFriend TM with the TAT
server and the unique media server device ID and the proof of purchase serial number are added to the
file watermark. This registration process will enable the file to be used on any of the consumer’s up to
20 registered devices.

PlayFriendTM will not allow TAT files to be copied or used if they are not registered to the specific
media server’s group of authorized devices (sometimes referred to as the consumer’s domain).
Each proof of purchase serial number can only be registered to one unique media server device.
To access media server files or streams, an authorized device that is using Ethernet and is more
than 100 meters distant from the media server, must have a PlayFriend TM application residing on
the device.

A consumer can delete an authorized device and replace it with another device at any time very
simply and quickly using PlayFriendTM. The deauthorized device will no longer be able to receive
new content files (either streamed or copied), but files already on that device will not be
harmed in any way.

The watermark information will not affect the quality of the play back experience in any way. This
embedded transaction ID will be persistent and encrypted to make it difficult to be removed.

Because TAT servers have a record of files that are authorized with a proof of purchase ID, TAT will
provide backup copies of purchased files via a download facility.

PlayFriendTM Facilitates the Use of Consumer Owned Content By All Popular Devices

The PlayFriendTM software will operate with any popular operating system. It will also have the ability
to copy TAT content from one format to a different format required by a consumer’s device. By bridging
silos, we allow legitimately acquired content to be used conveniently everywhere the consumer goes.

The PlayFriendTM application will bridge all popular protection/encryption schemes of content. TAT will
comply with requirements of schemes like AACS, FairPlay, Macrovision, HDCP, etc. and work with the
respective institutions which license these schemes thus giving the consumer the ability to use the
content in a much broader way.

 For example, the consumer may buy a Blu-Ray HD movie. The movie is then copied to the
media server. The consumer wants to see the movie on his Apple iPod when he/she goes on a
trip. When the authorized iPod is connected to the server that content will be compressed and
copied in a file format appropriate for that iPod.

The consumer is free to use content in any device that is authenticated

And in the format required by that device!!!.

We Believe in Consumer Rights and Empowerment

We believe our role is to empower the consumer. Service to the consumer is our primary mission. We
want to make Take Anywhere Technology TM and our PlayFriendTM application an automated background
process with little to no time required on the consumer’s part.

We believe in absolute transparency in what we do. The role of our PlayFriend TM application and any
implication for the consumer using it will be clearly presented.

We will not in any way harm the consumer devices or their files. PlayFriendTM can be removed
completely form any media server or device with no adverse affect on the device or files. The consumer
will, however, not be able to authenticate newly acquired files.

We will protect the identity and security of all users of our technology. Authentication and registration
will not require personal information. (The consumer can give personal information at their option to
receive enhanced benefits from content providers or seller.)

Lastly we will support the consumer with a 24 hour seven day a week service function both via toll free
number and internet access. This will mirror the service level provided by Gibson which provides a caller
with human responding in less the 30 seconds 98% of the time.

What About Bad Guys

Remember that all devices have a unique ID and that we have a record of every authentication in our
Gibson TakeAnywhereTM server farm.

PlayFriendTM will also scan files identified as TAT files to insure they are properly authenticated.
PlayFriendTM will not process other files nor will it record or otherwise communicate any information
about any of the consumer’s files or devices.

Because TAT will be dealing with millions of transactions and device, it will be possible to develop
statistical rules that indicate when devices are engaged in rogue activity. Minor consumer errors need
not trigger any action. We can be highly certain when real bad activity is taking place on a device.

If questionable activity is detected on a media server, the PlayFriend TM application will put up a small
intermittent screen asking the user to call our 24 hour - seven day a week high service hotline. That
friendly staffer will be able to solve any and all problems for the consumer very quickly.

TakeAnywhereTM will also be using the latest technology to search the internet for non complaint files
attempting to skirt our TakeAnywhereTM registration authentication protocol. We will use internet bots
and forensic analysis tools to discover the files and to unveil perpetrators that try to use content that
was not legitimately acquired.

We will also be able to update the PlayFriendTM application and the TAT server protocols to defeat
schemes which want to avoid the registration and authentication process.

TAT will have a staff dedicated continually updating our tools and technologies support new types of
devices, new content formats and to defeat bad actors.

Gibson’s Take Anywhere Technologies TM Company
