10 Read this article. Put the sentences (B-F) into the correct place in the text.
Living in paradise
Who hasnt dreamed of living in a perfect community where there is no crime or
unemployment, no pollution or traffic congestion, no racial tension or no-go areas?

Billed as a bold experiment for the new millennium, Castaway was a one-year reality
documentary series commissioned by the BBC. (1) _______________________
2000 also saw the first series of another big reality television show, Big Brother, but
while Big Brother was a competition with unpopular contestants asked to leave every
week and prize money to the winner, Castaway was purely a sociological experiment
with no winners or losers nor any prize money.
(2) ______________________________________ They were, after all, going to be
living on an inhospitable, uninhabited island so would need to have the appropriate
mental and physical attributes as they would have to be able to create a sustainable
and self-sufficient community.
The castaways had to construct their own living space or eco pods, build a school
and erect polytunnels for growing vegetables. They kept cattle, sheep, pigs and
chickens and had to kill them for meat. (3) _____________________________
Inevitably though, as time moved on, cracks started to appear and by the end of the
years filming, seven people had left due to arguments and accusations of bullying.
So, what was the point of this experiment? Was it to prove that we as humans just
arent able to live in harmony?

derelict buildings, allowing the owners of the island to turn the properties into holiday
lets after the series ended and Taransay has recently been sold for 2 million to
brothers living on the neighbouring island of Harris.
The BBC produced another series of Castaway in 2007 but this time on an exotic
island. (5) ________________________________ It seems that the popularity of
these reality shows is destined to continue for many years to come.
