Animal Cell: Parts of Plant Cell

The document describes the main parts of a plant cell and different types of animal cells. It lists the cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm, nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, vacuoles, Golgi bodies, and endoplasmic reticulum as the key components of a plant cell. It then contrasts animal cells by noting they lack cell walls and chloroplasts. The document goes on to describe five main types of animal cells - skin cells, muscle cells, blood cells, nerve cells, and fat cells - and their basic functions.

Parts of Plant Cell

Cell wall is the outermost rigid covering of the plant cell. It is a salient feature of plant cell.

Cell membrane or the plasma membrane is the outer lining of the cell inside the cell wall.

Cytosol or cytoplasm is the gel-like matrix inside the cell membrane which constitutes all other

cell organelles.
Nucleus is the control center of the cell. It is a membrane bound structure which contains the

hereditary material of the cell - the DNA

Chloroplast is a plastid with green pigment chlorophyll. It traps light energy and converts it to

chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis.

Mitochondria carries out cellular respiration and provides energy to the cells.

Vacuoles are the temporary storage center of the cell.

Golgi body is the unit where proteins are sorted and packed.

Ribosomes are structures that assemble proteins.

Endoplasmic reticulum are membrane covered organelles that transport materials.

ANIMAL CELL
An animal cell is a type of cell that dominates most of the tissue cells in animals. Animal
cells are different from plant cells because they don't have cell walls and chloroplasts, which are
relevant to plant cells.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF ANIMAL CELLS

SKIN CELLS
The skin cells of animals mostly consist of keratinocytes and melanocytes cyte meaning cell.
Keratinocytes make up around 90% of all skin cells and produce a protein called keratin. The
keratin in skin cells helps to make skin an effective layer of protection for the body.

MUSCLE CELLS
Myocytes, muscle fibers or muscle cells are long tubular cells responsible for moving an
organisms limbs and organs. Muscle cells can be either skeletal muscle cells, cardiac muscle
cells or smooth muscle cells

BLOOD CELLS
Blood cells can be split into red and white blood cells. Red blood cells make up around 99.9% of
all blood cells and are responsible for delivering oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.

NERVE CELLS
Nerve cells, also called neurons, are the main cells of the nervous system. The human brain
alone has around 100 billion nerve cells. They are the message carriers of animal cells and
deliver and receive signals using dendrites and axons.

FAT CELLS
Fat cells, also known as adipocytes or lipocytes, are used to store fats and other lipidsas energy
reserves. There are two common types of fat cells in animals white fat cells and brown fat cells.

Venn diagram
A Venn diagram (also called a set diagram or logic diagram) is a diagram that shows all
possible logical relations between a finite collection of different sets.
