Lab 1 Combinational Logic Circuit

This document provides instructions for a lab experiment on combinational logic circuits. The objectives are to derive Boolean expressions from circuit diagrams, simplify the expressions using Boolean algebra, and implement the circuits using logic gates. The experiment involves two parts: Part I has students analyzing and constructing two circuits, and Part II has students analyzing, simplifying, and implementing three Boolean expressions. The document provides the necessary background, objectives, learning outcomes, equipment, procedures, figures and tables to guide students through the experiment.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this experiment, students will be able to:

Apply the appropriate methods to simplify digital logic circuits

Design the simple digital electronic circuits

EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

IDL-800 Digital Lab Unit

IC type 74LS32 OR gate
IC type 74LS08 AND gate
IC type 74LS04 hex inverter
IC type 74LS00 NAND gate
IC type 74LS02 NOR gate

PROCEDURES
Part I
1. Show the output of each gate in terms of input variables. Tabulate the results
in Table 1.
2. Derive a Boolean expression for the output F shown in Figure 1.
3. Simplify the Boolean expression derived from step 2 by using the appropriate
Boolean laws.
4. Draw the new logic circuit that corresponds to the simplified equation.
5. Construct and compare both the circuits.
