journaling
4. What is personal archive in Exchange Server 2010 archiving?
It is a Secondary mailbox that is configured by the administrator, this appears along with users
primary mailbox in outlook or OWA, and the PST files can be dragged and dropped to personal
archive Mailbox. Mails in Primary mailbox can be moved automatically using Retention
policies. Archive quota can be set separately from primary mailbox
5. What are retention policies? And what we can do with retention policies in Exchange Server
2010?
Retention policy is an option to move/ delete certain mails by applying rules. We can set
retention policies at Item or Folder level. Policies can be applied directly within e-mail. We can
set expiration date stamped directly on e-mail. Policies can be applied to all email within a
folder. We can configure delete policy to delete the mail after certain period and Archive policies

to move certain mails with the certain period to archive mailbox

6. What are the Retention Policies in Exchange Server 2010?
1. Move Policy automatically moves messages to the messages to the archive Mailbox with the
options of 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years and never 2 years is default. Move mailbox
policies helps keep mailbox under quota. This works like outlook Auto Archive without creating
PSTs
2. Delete Policy automatically deletes messages. Delete policies are global. Removes unwanted
items
3. Move + Delete policy automatically moves messages to archive after X months and deletes
from archive after Y Months. We can set policy priority: Explicit policies over default policies;
longer policies apply over shorted policies
7. What is Multi Mailbox Search?
This option delegated access to search to HR, compliance, legal manager. Administrator has to
provide access permission on to use this feature, this will provide an option to search all mail
items ( email, IM contacts, calendar) across primary mailbox, archives. The filtering option in

creates one report per message

11. What is journal decryption?

Journal decryption is a new feature in Exchange Server 2010, if a user sends an encrypted
message to recipient and if journaling was enabled for that user, then the Hub transport Server
decrypts the message and sends that decrypted message for journaling. The intended recipient
will receive the encrypted message
12. What is Set Quota in Archive management?
With Mailbox quota Management, we can assign mailbox size for a user. This option can be
enabled from the properties of the user account, and the default settings to Mailbox quota is 10
GB
1. What is federated sharing?
Federated Sharing allows easy sharing of availability information, calendar, and contacts with
recipients in external federated organizations
2. What are the options shared in federated sharing?
1. Free busy information
2. Calendar and contact sharing
3. Sharing policy
3. How federated sharing works in Exchange server 2010?
4. Explain the operation of federation?
5. What are the benefits of federation?
Allow users to act on behalf of specific user
Specific user identified by E-mail address
User not prompted for credentials
Reduces explicit trust management
No AD trusts, service to cloud accounts to manage
Minimizes certificate exchanges
Verifies domain ownership
6. Explain the federation commands in Exchange server 2010?
Establish federation trust = New-federation Trust
Install signing certificate on CAS servers
Exchange certificate with federation gateway
Prove domain ownership = domainname.com IN TXT AppId = xxxxxxxx
Create DNS TXT record
Add domain to trust = set-federatedOrganizationIdentifier
Add-federatedDomain
Must be accepted domain
7. How to establish federated sharing in Exchange Server 2010?
1. Create trust with certificate exchange
2. Prove domain ownership

3. Add domains
8. What is Microsoft Federation Gateway?
Exchange Server 2010 uses Microsoft Federation Gateway (MFG), an identity service that runs
in the cloud, as the trust broker. Exchange organizations wanting to use Federation establish a
Federation Trust with MFG, allowing it to become a federation partner to the Exchange
organization. The trust allows users authenticated by Active Directory , known as the identity
provider (IP), to be issued Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) delegation tokens by
MFG. The delegation tokens allow users from one federated organization to be trusted by
another federated organization. With MFG acting as the trust broker, organizations are not
required to establish multiple individual trust relationships with other organizations. Users can
access external resources using a single sign-on (SSO) experience
9. What is Federation Trust?
A Federation Trust is established between an Exchange organization and MFG by exchanging the
organizations certificate with MFG, and retrieving MFGs certificate and federation metadata.
The certificate is used for encrypting tokens
10. What is Sharing Policy?
Sharing policies allow you to control how users in your organization can share calendar and
contact information with users outside the organization. To provision recipients to use a
particular sharing policy
Prerequisites to create a Sharing Policy
A federation trust has been created between your Exchange 2010 organization and Microsoft
Federation Gateway, and the Federated Organization Identifier is configured.
Although you can create a sharing policy for any external domain, recipients from the specified
domain can access your users information only if they have a mailbox in an Exchange 2010
organization and their domain is federated

Additonal Scripts on Exchange 2010 SP2

As with most Microsoft Exchange Service

Packs and some Update Rollups, Exchange Server SP2 introduces six
new scripts that are useful to manage and monitor your Exchange
organization.
All the canned Exchange scripts are located in the
%ExchangeInstallPath%\Scripts folder (normally, C:\Program

Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Scripts). You can easily change

to this folder within the Exchange Management Shell (EMS) using the
command cd $exscripts. It looks dirty, but it's not. :)
The six new(ish) Exchange Service Pack 2 scripts are:

ConvertOABVDir.ps1 - This script will convert the OAB virtual

directory to an IIS web application, as well as create a new
application pool called MSExchangeOabAppPool. Converting the
OAB virtual directory is necessary to support different
authentication methods like Kerberos and Certificate
authentication. You need to execute this script on each Client
Access Server. Ross Smith wrote about this script in his article,
Recommendation: Enabling Kerberos Authentication for MAPI
Clients.

ExPerfwiz.ps1 -- Use this script to help automate the collection

of performance data on Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010
servers. It is no longer necessary to pick the correct counters for
the Exchange Server Roles that are installed, as this script will
automatically detect the roles installed and will add the
appropriate counters for each role detected. This script was
previously available on MSDN.

LargeToken-IIS_EWS.ps1 -- This script and the following

script, LargeToken-Kerberos.ps1, were actually released in
Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server SP1. LargeTokenIIS_EWS.ps1 increases the value of the MaxFieldLength and
MaxRequestBytes IIS parameters on all CAS servers in the Active
Directory site. In addition, it changes the EWS Web.config
bindings on Exchange 2010 SP1 and the CAS servers. See the
article, You cannot view the free/busy information of users in a
mixed Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010
environment for more info.

LargeToken-Kerberos.ps1 -- This script sets

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Kerberos\Paramete
rs values MaxPacketSize to DWORD 1 and MaxTokenSize to
DWORD 65535 on all machines in the domain (or on specified
machines). See New resolution for problems with Kerberos
authentication when users belong to many groups for more
information on these keys.

MessageStats.ps1 -- I learned about this script by rock star

Neil Johnson in MCM training from the man, himself. It's a superfast script replacement for the Exchange Server Profile Analyzer
tool. It gathers user profile data for Exchange Server 2003 and
2007 including messages sent per mailbox per day, messages
received per mailbox per day, and average message size. See
Neil's blog article, User Profile Analysis for Exchange Server 2010
(Who needs the Exchange Profile Analyzer?) for more details.

Reenable-AuditLoggingAgent.ps1 -- On Exchange 2010 RTM,

if you run "Setup.com /prepareAD" to upgrade to Exchange 2010
SP1, the "Admin Audit Log Agent" gets disabled. It will not run
again until the SP1 installation has completed, meaning that
admin auditing will not be captured. This script fixes that issue
by rolling back msExchVersion of the agent in Active Directory.
Note: The issue goes away once SP1 installation is complete.

It's great to see these new scripts make it into mainstream production
rollouts

Exchange 2010 SP2 RTM

Did you all know that Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 2 (SP2) has been
released last night, raising the Exchange version number to 14.2.247.5. You can
download Exchange 2010 SP2 here.
For those still unaware, the 530Mb+ file (1,3 GB extracted) contains the full set of
binaries; you can use it to upgrade existing RTM or SP1 installations or deploy
new Exchange 2010 SP2 installations.
Besides the usual set of hotfixes, SP2 introduces the following features:
Address Book Policies
Address Book Policies, also known as GAL segmentation, ABPs are meant to
segmented the address book, giving users a certain view of the address book like
Address List Segregation did for Exchange 2003/2007. ABPs were already
announced back in January. I wonder how this affects for instance MailTips, as
MailTips might report on organization-wide figures (sending mail to X users) while
the end user may only see a small fragment of the population. Also, be advised
that clients bypassing the CAS server for directory lookups, e.g. LDAP queries,
dont benefit from ABPs. Think Outlook for Mac but also multifunctionals, fax
solutions etc.
OWA mini
This will be a lightweight browser like OMA in the past, meant for simple
browsers.
Hybrid Configuration
This wizard is to make the configuration of an on-premise Exchange and Office
365/Exchange Online more simple, reducing the steps required from 49 to 6.
OWA Cross-Site redirection
This will allow clients to be silently redirected to the proper site if they log on to a
CAS server located in a site different than the site where their mailbox is hosted

and externalURL has been specified there. This greatly increases the single signon experience.
The releases notes are not available at this time.

Lync 2010 CU4 is out

long anticipated Cumulative Update is out. You can download it here:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=11551 Of course, I would
recommend to use LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe, unless you have special reason to omit
some role update.
Description of the fixes can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=2493736
Now, was I disappointed Mobility was not included in this package not really. I do
believe, however, that Cumulative Update 4 introduces the changes necessary to support
mobility. I am facing the fact Mobility is not yet available philosophically It will be
ready when it is ready.
Lync is now an enterprise grade system and we should no longer expect something that
will require fixing right away. Like I always said Patience is a virtue ...especially
when comes to dial tone...

What Exchange Delegation and Lync do?

This was something that I have wanted to share with you all. There were more queries
from Service desk and desktop team about what people I manage call for do and how to
remove/manage them from the Lync client.

The "People I manage calls for" is part of the delegation model. If the user in question is
responsible for scheduling Lync/OCS meetings for the person in their "People I manage
calls for" group, no you cannot remove them because removing them will remove their
ability to schedule meetings as well. If that's not the intention, and they ended up being a
delegate by accident of exchange permissions then yes they can be safely removed.

There is a resource kit utility called SEFAUtil.exe that has the ability to add/remove
delegations from Lync server manually.

Normally, Lync gets its delegate information from permissions settings in exchange. For
the example, Im going to use Boss and Admin instead of delegator and delegate because
I find the latter confusing

For the admin to be able to schedule Lync meetings for the boss, the boss sets either
Editor or Author rights on his calendar to his admin
Both the boss and the admin have the csclientpolicy EnableExchangeDelegateSync set
to $true

When the bosss Lync client boots up it checks with exchange to see what permissions
the boss has granted other people. It will find hes granted his admin Editor or
Author rights to his calendar and the Lync client will send a message to the Lync server
to grant delegation permission to the admin.
When the Admin restarts their client, it will contact the Lync server and pull down the
users that the admin has been granted permission for. The admin will then be able to
schedule Lync meetings inside the bosss calendar.

This is the normal process

Lync Server 2010 Delegation

Lync Server 2010 has a delegation feature that enables users the ability to enable
delegation to other Lync users to recieve and make calls on another person behalf. Now
you can go and make someone a delegate by going to
Call Forward settings
Edit my delegate members
Clicking add, and then adding the people you want (you can not add federated users as
delegates)
Now the interesting piece is that Lync delegation can leverage Exchange delegates. So
this means Lync 2010 can leverage your existing delegation settings from either Inbox
and or Calander settings.

Now the issue I ran into before was a user asked me a few questions:
Question: How did the delegates for Lync just appear there?
Answer: If a end user has users delegated in Outlook in either their Inbox or Calender
then those delegates are going to appear in Lync automatically.
Question: Does that mean that the people in my Lync delegate will recieve my phone
calls on my behalf?
Answer: Not necessarily, you will have to go into Lync (see above) and select a user with
a check box?
Question: So why is it that when I go to try to remove some people from my Lync
delegation area that just keep coming back?
Answer: Well, in Outlook you can give people different levels of access. For those users
that you give Editor permissions in your calender, you are giving those users the ability
to schedule meetings on your behalf. So just because you remove them from Lync as a
delegate they are going to reappear.
Question: How do I get those users in my Lync delegation to not come back?
Answer: By editing those users permissions in your Oulook calender from Editor to
Reviewer you should be able to remove them from Lync (see above) and those users will
not reappear anymore.
Hopefully this is helpful information going forward.
