Installation Instructions
STUDENT OWNED COMPUTERS ONLY.
This license MUST NOT be installed on a University owned computer.
For Departmental computers, contact your Departmental MATLAB Rep.

Before you can install this product


YOU MUST READ AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING.
You can only install this software if :You are a member of the University of Oxford.
You agree not to disclose the license pass codes to people outside Oxford
University.
You agree only to use the license for your work at the University of Oxford.
You agree to abide by the terms of the license agreement between MathWorks
and the University of Oxford.
(The agreement is displayed as part of the installation procedure.)
You may not use this license on more than two Computers simultaneously.

Before you can download MATLAB, you need to create an account on the
MathWorks web site. You will need to enter your Email address.
THIS MUST BE YOUR OXFORD UNIVERSITY EMAIL ADDRESS.
In other words, it must end in ox.ac.uk. If you use any other address such as hot mail
or Google mail, which is not in the University Domain, you will not be able to install
MATLAB.
The instructions to create an account on the MathWorks web site are on the next page.

Creating a Mathworks Account


1. Open a web browser and go to the Mathworks web site

2. Click on Log In in the top right hand corner of the window,


and select Create an Account
Email Address
At the top of the form, enter your Email address
(Must be an address ending in ox.ac.uk)
Country/Region
For Country/Region Select: United Kingdom
How will you use The Mathworks Software

Under
How will you use The Mathworks Software
Select:
Academic use (Including campus/site license use)

If you select anything else other than "Academic use", you will not
be able to associate with the license.

Fill in the rest of the form.
Click on Create

3. Mathworks will them send you an Email.

The Email will contain a link.


YOU MUST CLICK ON THIS LINK TO COMPLETE THE ACCOUNT
CREATION PROCESS.

4. The link goes to a form to create your profile.


Enter your Names
Enter a Password and verify it.
Please enter your Department.
Make a note of your password. You will need it to update your MATLAB license in
the future.
At the bottom of the form is a box for the activation key. Paste in the following
number.

Hit the create button.

5. This is your account page.


You can get back to this page at any time by going to
https://www.mathworks.co.uk
Selecting Log In in the top right and logging in.
Clicking on your name in the top right and selection My Account.

6. Click on Download Products


This allows you to download MATLAB and toolboxes to your computer.
Go to step 4 on the next page.

Download MATLAB to your Computer


This assumes that you have already created an account at MathWorks and that you
have associated your account with the License.

1.

If you have logged out of the Mathworks web site since you created your
account, go to the Mathworks web site

Click on Log In and select Log In and enter your Email address and password.

If you are logged in, your name will be on the banner at the top of the page.
Click on your name and select My Account.

3. Click on Downloads Products.

You should now be on the Downloads Page.

The current release of MATLAB is in the Center of the window, with older releases to
the right.

MAC users : before downloading, look at Which release of MATLAB to


Download, on page 6.
If you are not sure about which version to download see the next page and also
click on System Requirements.

The installation software is now downloaded to your computer. The rest of the
instructions depend on the type of computer that you are using. To continue, open the
installation instructions appropriate to your computer that accompanied this
document.

Download Speeds
If you are using a wireless connection, or standard broadband network connection at
home, it will take many hours to download all 50 toolboxes. If this is the case, you
can just download MATLAB and any other toolboxes you need.
You can add other toolboxes at a later date by running the installer again and selecting
the toolboxes you wish to add.

64/32 Bit Operating Systems


I think all the modern operating systems are now 64 bit. Some of you using older
operating systems may need work out which version of MATLAB to download.
It is important that you select the version of MATLAB that matches the size of your
operating system.
On windows, hold down the key with the windows icon on it and press the break key.
If it does not say 64 bit operating system, it is 32 bit.
On Linux enter uname a
If it does not say x86_64, it is 32 bit.

Which release of MATLAB to download for my MAC?


If you are using the MAC operating system OSX 10.7.4 or above, then you can
download and install MATLAB release R2014a.
To find which version of OSX you are using.
On the Mac, Click on the apple in the far top left.
Select About this MAC
If you have an older version of the MAC operating system, you will have to download
an older release of MATLAB. See the table below.
