Career Opportunities in Electronics & Communication Engineering

Electronic communications engineering is the utilization of science and math applied to practical
problems in the field of communications. Electronic communications engineers engage in
research, design, development and testing of the electronic equipment used in various
communications systems. It is due to Electronic communications engineers that we enjoy such
modern communication devices as cellular telephones, radios and television.
The discipline integrates knowledge based on digital electronics and logic design, fundamentals
of communication engineering, electronic circuits, signals and systems, power electronics,
applied electromagnetic theory, integrated circuits, VLSI, control systems and computer
architecture.

After completing a B. Tech/BE students can opt for M. Tech/MS in various subjects such as
Fiber Optics and Light waves, Microelectronics & V L S I Design, RF and Microwaves,
Telecommunication Systems, Visual Information and Embedded Systems.

This branch offers plethora of job opportunities for the engineers. They are mostly employed by
electronic and communication industry. The other industries which offer placement to the
students include IT, consumer electronics, power transmission companies, computer applications,
aviation, telecommunication, electronic media and manufacturing companies.

1. Communications Engineer
Today's marketplace relies on highly advanced communications systems, so communications
engineering is a valued field. With a certificate or bachelor's degree, a communications engineer
can carve out a career in telecommunications or related fields that use computer networking and
satellite, digital TV, Internet or radio technology.
Employers look to communications engineers to help prepare and maintain communications
systems.
Expected duties include designing, developing, installing and testing system equipment and
implementing procedures to make all components operational. As a result of an ever-increasing
demand for broadband service, more professionals within this field work with Internet
technology.
2. Electronics Engineer
Electronic engineers focus on the manufacturing of various types of electronic equipment,
including communications and navigation systems, motors and power generation equipment. To
manufacture these pieces of equipment and devices, electronic engineers create designs and build
prototypes.
