Experiment No 7

This document describes an experiment to measure inductance using Anderson's bridge. The apparatus used includes an Anderson bridge kit, digital multimeter, and patch cords. Unknown inductors and standard capacitors and resistors are used as components. Anderson's bridge allows for accurate measurement of inductance in terms of a standard capacitor. At balance, the current through the legs of the bridge are equal. Equations are derived relating the unknown inductance to the known resistances and capacitance. Measurement results and calculations are shown in tables. Advantages include using a fixed capacitor instead of a variable one. Disadvantages include it being more complex than Maxwell's bridge. Precautions like tight connections and avoiding touching live terminals are described.

Theory:- AC bridge method is outstanding importance for measurement of electrical quantities

(Resistance, inductance, and capacitance etc).Measurement of inductance, capacitance, storage
factor and loss factor may be made accurately by employing AC bridge Network. AC bridge
circuit is commonly used for phase shifting and providing feedback to the oscillator and
amplifier. The detector commonly used is CRO, headphones & Digital Null Detector.
Andersons Bridge is one of the most
accurate bridges which is commonly used for the
measurement of self inductances in terms of
standard
capacitances
and
non-inductive
resistances. In This method, the self inductance is
measured in terms of standard capacitor. This
method is applicable for measurement of self
inductances over a wide range of values.

Results:Advantages:1- A fixed capacitor can be used instead of a variable capacitor as in case of Maxwells
bridge.
2- This bridge may be used for accurate determination of capacitance in terms of
inductance.
Disadvantages:1- Andersons bridge is more complex than Maxwells bridge.
2- An additional junction point increase the difficulty of shielding of bridge.

Precautions and Possible Sources of Error:1) All Connection Should be Tight

2) Do Not Touch the Live Terminals.
3) Reading should be Obtained carefully.
