accounts.

specificorganizationalunit.Ifyouchooseanorganizationalunitwith
suborganizationalunits,allofthesuborganizationalunitswillbesearched.

results.

DuplicatesearchformLoadsanothersearchdialogprepopulatedwiththe
informationyou'vealreadyentered.

ResetClearsthesearchform.

Previewsearchresults
WhenyousearchformailorfilesinGoogleAppsVault,yourresultsappearinalistontheSearchpage.
Thelistshowsthefollowingforeachmessageordocument:TheSubjectofthesearchresult,theOwnerof
theresult,andtheDateitwascreated.

Previewinganemailresult
Whenyouopenanemailresult,themessage'sentireconversationisdisplayed.Messagesthatcontainthe
textofyoursearchqueryareexpanded,andmessagesthatdonotcontainthequeryarecollapsed.Click
theheadingofamessagetoexpandorcollapseit.

Toviewbasicheaderinformationforamessage,clickshowdetails.

Toviewamessageinitsentirety,includingallheaderinformation,clickoriginal.

Toprintanindividualmessage,clickprint.

Toprintallmessagesinaconversation,clickPrintall.

Formessageswithattachments,youcanDownloadtheattachedfiles.Forsomefiletypes
(suchas.docx,.ppt,and.pdf)youcanViewtheattachmentwithoutdownloadingit.

Mailexports
WhenyouexportmailfromVault,youcandownloadthefollowingitems:

AcompressedmboxfileContainsdetailsandcontentsoftheexportedmessages.After
expandingthe.zipfile,youcanopenanmboxfilein:
Someemailprograms,suchasMozillaThunderbird.
Atexteditor,suchasMicrosoftNotepadorWordpad.Youcanseetheheaders,
sender,recipients,subject,andbodytextforeachmessage.However,file
attachmentsappearintheirencodedformonly,soyoucan'tviewtheminatext
editor.
Somelitigationsupportsystems.Someofthesesystemsincludeemail
conversiontools.
AnXMLfileContainsrelevantmessagemetadataasitexistsinGmail.Openthisfileinatext
editoranduseittoconnectmessagemetadatawiththemessagecontentsfromthemboxfile.
ACSVfileContainsaddressesofmessageownersincludedintheexport,alongwiththe
numberofmessagesownedbyeachuser.

Anmboxfileisastandardformatforstoringmailmessages.Itcontainsallofthedetailsfortheexported
messages,includingmessagetextandanyattachments.TheVaultXMLfilereflectsthemessagemetadata
asrecordedbyGmail.TogetherthesefilesprovidealinkbetweentheemailstoredonGoogleserversand
thedatayouveexportedfromVault.
Viewingmessagesinanemailapplication
Youmaywanttolookattheexportedmessagesinanemailapplication.Thisisusefulwhenmessages
includeHTMLformattingorattachments,likeJPEGsandPDFs,thatcannotbedisplayedbyatexteditor
YoucanimportthemboxfiletoathirdpartyemailclientlikeThunderbird,andthencorrelatethemessages
usingtheMessage-IDparameterfromthemboxfileforexample:
