4. Describe four of the main characters. For each character answer the following: Who was the
actor/actress playing the role? Describe the characters personality.
Four of the main characters in this play were both the narrators, played by Allie Reagan and Kolter
Quick. They were both hosts and played both roles very well. Even though they were just narrators,
they both had very different personalities that suited the role. Allie had more of a serious tone and
liked the stories to be told as they were written. Kolter, on the other hand, was very goofy and silly to
pull the audience attention and made you laugh. Another big role that was played was Rapunzels
mother played by Kyla Carpenter. She was a bit part in the play and played her role very well! She
basically started off the whole play and appeared throughout it. The last main character that I thought
played their role very well is would have to be Rapunzel played by Faith Shaver. Her attitude and
sassiness was wonderful while she played this part! There was a lot of conflict in the play with her
mother, which most of the play was revolved around.
5. Discuss the acting. Which actor do you feel was most successful in portraying his/her character?
What made the portrayal so successful? Were there any actors that needed improvement? If so, which
ones?
Personally I thought that the acting was excellent! I felt like there was not a single person that didnt
do a wonderful job portraying their character. Everyone was so enthusiastic and looked like they
were having fun. If I have to pick only ONE character that was the most successful it would have to
be Gaige because he had so many different parts that he had to put on a good show and act A LOT!
6. Describe the lighting and sound. How did the lighting and sound contribute to the overall
production? Were there any special lighting or sound effects? (including colors, spotlights, lightning,
day/night scenes, sound cuesetc.)
The lighting and the sound was very good! The dim lighting was perfect for the scenes that were
played and the sound wasnt too loud but just right. One thing that I really enjoyed was that the actors
had the audience participate. I feel that this got the audience more into the play. It was also very
helpful when Kolter would help us with when we needed to make our sounds for the play.
7. Describe the costumes worn by the four characters discussed in number 4. Include specific
information about color, styleetc.
I thought the costumes were very good! I thought that they all fit the characters very well and thought
that it wasnt too much. Allies dress for the narrator was very beautiful and fit the part really well
and for Kolter as well! They were both very professional and how a narrator should look. Kyla had
many different costumes and I thought they were all really good! All of the parts that she played had
a very good costume that could easily be seen playing the part. My favorite costume of hers would
have to be the green dress as she played Gretel! Lastly, Faiths costume was very fitting for her part!
The beautiful pink dress and blonde wig was perfect!
8. Was this play a musical? If not, go to question 9. If yes, answer the following. Discuss the singing
and dancing. What was your favorite song? Dance number? How do the music, singing and
choreography contribute to the overall production?
This play was not a musical. There was only one part when Snow white sang a song but other than
that there was no singing or dancing.
9. Discuss your overall reaction to the production. Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? What were
your favorite and least favorite parts?
My overall reaction to the production was very funny! I thought this play was very funny and fun to
watch! It was very enjoyable to watch and would see myself going again in the future. Some of my
favorite parts were when Preston was talking about his love life to the princess and told her to kiss
that frog. I also thought it was hilarious when he came running through and yelling KISS THE
FROG. But my overall favorite part was when Gaige had to play all of those parts of Cinderella. I
have no idea how he did it but it was extremely funny and I dont think anyone in that auditorium
couldnt help but laugh. I didnt have a least favorite part because I loved the play overall.
10. What did you learn about theatre from this viewing experience?
What I learned about theatre from this experience is that plays/performances are not something that
you can just put together in one night. They take a lot of hard work, time, and effort to put on a show.
Memorizing those lines take a lot of time and rehersing to get them to where they were during this
performance. I give a lot of credit to the people that are so committed to putting their all into these
performances.
I am very happy to say that as my first Fort Morgan High School spring play that I have ever
been to, I thought it was one of the best, funniest plays that I have ever watch and was EXTREMELY
impressed with how well it was. I give HUGE credit to Mr. Howe and Miss McMullin for putting on
a great show. I could definitely see myself going back to a spring play in the near future! I personally
knew some of the people that played a part in the play and I thought that the character choices were
PERFECT with each ones personality.
If you did not have the opportunity to see this wonderful play, let me give you a brief
summary. To start the play off, there were two wonderful narrators that presented the story to us and
walked us through each one. The first story was about a poor peasant girl that didnt really have
anything. As she sat there, there came along a devil, enchantress, and Rumpelstiltskin. Each one
made deals with this girl. She asked to marry a prince, have a lot of money and have a baby. Years
went by and the daughter, Rapunzel was a bratty teenager and was eventually locked away in a tower
by the enchantress. Her prince comes, is banished to the desert and then they eventually find each
other again. When Rapunzels mother was younger she was known as Gretel. Her and Hansel went to
a witches house, ate her house, then Hansel vanished. How did the witch become a witch? Well you
see, the witch used to be a fish girl who caught a talking finish and granted her two wishes. These
wishes were to never go hungry again and to have magical powers. So the fish granted her a candy
house and turned her into a witch. After that, a princess loses her ball and it is found by a frog. The
frog follows her around EVERWHERE and eventually gets kissed by the princess after a long time
of begging. Then came the story of Snow white and how the narrator had to kiss Snow white because
she was pretending to be a dwarf. Snow white had a daughter who was kidnapped by a grandmother
and her name was Little Red Cap. The final scene was Cinderella. Before this scene starts Gaige
comes out and says All of the actors are sick. Gaige came to save the day and played all the actors
in Cinderella.
The final scene had to be my absolute favorite because Gaige stole the show! He played such
a great role and his personality fit the whole part! Every part of this play was absolutely great!
Overall, I couldnt help but laugh at the whole thing because it was so entertaining and funny! I am
very glad that I was able to see The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon for my first FMHS spring play
