Linear Law

This document provides information about linear laws and reducing non-linear relations to linear form: 1. It introduces the concept of lines of best fit, which are straight lines drawn through data points on a scatter plot to show the trend of the data. Lines of best fit have properties like passing through many points and having points balanced on either side. 2. Non-linear relations like y=ax2 can be changed into linear form like Y=mX+c by taking logarithms or dividing/multiplying terms, allowing lines of best fit to be drawn. Examples show how to determine the gradient m and y-intercept c. 3. Values of variables can be obtained from lines of best fit by

THE CONCEPT OF LINES OF BEST FIT

The properties of the line of best fit:

The straight line is drawn such away that it passes
through as many points as possible.
The number of points that do not lie on the straight line
drawn should be more or less the same on both sides of
the straight line.
Example.
