BACnet Protocol Diagram

The document describes the BACnet data link layer and its protocols. BACnet supports two main data link layer protocols: MS/TP for direct connection and BACnet/IP for IP networks. MS/TP uses a preamble, type code, and frame type field in its packets. BACnet/IP uses BVLL to encapsulate BACnet packets and add a type code and BVLC function field. Both protocols support network and transport layer functions to route packets and carry application service payloads like WhoIs, I-Am, and various property read/write services.
