Find the point on the curve y x 2 3x 5 where the normal is parallel to the tangent to
the curve at the point (4, 9), and hence find the equation of this normal.

A farmer wishes to enclose a rectangular area with a fence. He has a large number of
small flexible units of total length 100 metres that will enable him to construct a
rectangle of any size. He uses an existing wall, as shown in the diagram so that he uses
his fence to make the remaining three sides.

Let the two shorter sides be of length x.
