Hymnus trium puerorum: Angelus Domini similiter descendit
Amen.
The Deacon:
Canticle of the three young men: An Angel of the Lord
descended likewise into the burning fiery furnace with Ananias
and his companions. And he droveout the fiery flame of the
furnace, and in the midst of the furnace he breathed upon
them, and it was like the coolness of a breeze and of dew. And in
no wise did the fire touch them, nor constrain them, nor cause
them any suffering. Then the three men, as with one mouth,
praising, and magnifying, and blessing the Lord, said: O Lord
God of our fathers, thou art worthy of praise, be thou exalted
for ever. Amen.

Credo
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. Begotten of His Father
before all worlds. God of god, Light of light, very God of very God,
begotten not made. Being of one substance with the Father, by
whom all things were made. Who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven. And was made flesh by the Holy
Ghost of the Virgin Mary and was made man. And was crucified
also for us, under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried.
And on the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures.
And ascended into heaven. And sitteth on the right hand of God
the Father. From thence He shall come again in glory to judge
both the quick and the dead. Whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord, the giver of life, who
proceedeth from the Father and the Son. Who with the Father
and the Son together is worshipped and glorified. Who spake by
the Prophets. And I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic
Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins.
And I look for the resurrection of the dead. And the life of the
world to come. Amen.

In quo totum continetur
Unde mundus judicetur.
Judex ergo cum sedebit,
Quidquid latet apparebit,

Quid sum miser tunc dicturus?
Quem ptronum rogaturus?

Incipit lamentatio Jeremi Prophet
Heth.
Peccatum peccavit Jerusalem,
propterea instabilis facta est:
omnes qui glorificabant eam,
spreverunt illam, quia viderunt ignominiam ejus:
ipsa autem gemens conversa est retrorsum.
Lamed.
Aleph.
Quomodo sedet sola civitas plena populo,
facta est quasi vidua domina Gentium.
Princeps provinciarum facta est sub tributo.
Aleph.
How doth the city sit solitary, that was full of people!
how is she become as a widow!
she that was great among the nations, and princess among the
provinces, how is she become tributary!
Beth.
Plorans ploravit in nocte,
et lacrim ejus in maxillis ejus:
non est qui consoletur eam
ex omnibus caris ejus:
omnes amici ejus spreverunt eam,
et facti sunt ei inimici.
Beth.
She weeps sore in the night,
and her tears are on her cheeks;
among all her lovers she hath
none to comfort her;
all her friends have dealt treacherously with her,
they have become her enemies.

Is it nothing to you, all ye that pass by?
behold, and see if there be any sorrow like unto my sorrow.
Jerusalem,

Jerusalem,

Heth.
Cogitavit Dominus dissipare murum fili Sion:
tetendit funiculum suum,
et non avertit manum suum a perditione:
luxitque antemurale, et murus pariter dissipatus est.
Heth.
The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter
he hath stretched out a line, [of Zion;
he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying;
therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament; they
languished together.
Ghimel.
Migravit Judas propter afflictionem,
et multitudinem servitutis:
habitavit inter Gentes,
nec invenit requiem:
omnes persecutores ejus
apprehenderunt eam inter angustias.
Ghimel.
Judah is gone into captivity because of affliction,
and because of great servitude;
she dwelleth among the heathen
but findeth no rest;
all her persecutors
overtook her between the straits.
Teth.
visionem a Domino.
Teth.
Her gates have sunk into the ground;
he hath destroyed and broken her bars;
her king and princes are among the Gentiles;
the law is no more and her prophets also find no vision from
the Lord.
Daleth.
Vi Sion lugent eo quod non sint
qui veniant ad solemnitatem.
Omnes port ejus destruct
sacerdotes ejus gementes
virgines ejus squalid,
et ipsa opressa est amaritudine.
Jerusalem,
convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum.
Daleth.
The ways of Zion do mourn,
because none come to the solemn feasts;
all her gates are desolate,
her priests sigh;
her virgins are afflicted,
and she is in bitterness.
Jerusalem,
convert to your Lord God.
Jod.
Sederunt in terra, conticuerunt senes fili Sion:
consperserunt cinere capita sua,
accincti sunt ciliciis,
abjecerunt in terram capita sua virgines Jerusalem.
Jod.
The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground,
and keep silence; they have cast up dust upon their heads;
they have girded themselves with sackcloth;
the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.
Jerusalem,

3. Lectio Tertia

Et abierunt absque fortitudine ante faciem subsequentis.
Vau.
From the daughter of Zion all her majesty is departed;
her princes are become

and they are gone without strength before the pursuer.
5. Lamentatio Secunda
Mem.
Cui comparabo te?
vel cui assimilabo te, filia Jerusalem?
cui exquabo te, et consolabor te,

Magna est enim velut mare contritio tua:

Mem.
What thing shall I take to witness for thee?
what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem?
What shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee,

Perch mormora il ruscello,

Let us stay our steps here, Abel,
Sit down on this stone
And in the shade of these myrtles,
Beside this stream which flows so near us,
We can for a while restore our spirits
And assuage our weariness in song.
Why does the stream murmur so,
Why do the leaves so rustle,
Can a stone, or a light breeze
Thus shake a bough or ruffle a wave?
Why does the stream, etc.

The stone was too massive, that great burden of heavy sins
that oppressed me and would not let me find rest anywhere.
Thanks be to God, I am now free of it,
for Jesus lives, and so my sorrows can find rest;
that stone too heavy to bear has been rolled from off my heart.
Those who kept watch over Christs tomb are gone, they have
[crept away,
Samson the strong has broken the door in two
and carries it away in the darkness of midnight.
Thus will he, as he has promised me,
pluck me from all affliction with his strong hand.
Now I can forsake the world, my grave has no terrors for me,
because I have this life with me even in death
and angels have joined me in the grave.
The soul shall ascend to Heaven from the mouth,
and the body too will surely rise from the dead.
Amen.
Amen.

Lasset das Zagen, verbannet die Klage,
Stimmet voll Jauchzen und Frhlichkeit an!
Dienet dem Hchsten mit herrlichen Chren,
Lat uns den Namen des Herrschers verehren!

Let us glorify the Name of the Lord!
3. Rezitativ / alt
Nun wird mein liebster Brutigam,
Nun wird der Held aus Davids Stamm
Zum Trost, zum Heil der Erden
Einmal geboren werden.
Nun wird der Stern aus Jakob scheinen,

Auf, Zion, und verlasse nun das Weinen,
Dein Wohl steigt hoch empor!
3. Recitative / alto
Now my beloved bridegroom
Now the hero from Davids lineage
At last will be born,
For the comfort and redemption of the world.
Now the star of Jacob will shine,
Its beams already break forth.
Arise, Zion, and forsake your weeping,
Your comfort has come!
4. Arie / alt
Deine Wangen
Mssen heut viel schner prangen,
Eile, den Brutigam sehnlichst zu lieben!
4. Aria / alto
Make ready, Zion, with tender emotions
Soon to behold the fairest, most beloved one!
Your countenance
Should shine more fairly today,
Make haste with ardour to love the bridegroom!
5. Choral
Wie soll ich dich empfangen
Und wie begegn ich dir?

O meiner Seelen Zier!
O Jesu, Jesu, setze
Mir selbst die Fackel bei,
Damit, was dich ergtze,
Mir kund und wissend sei.
5. Chorale
How shall I receive thee,
And how shall I meet thee?
O, all the worlds longing,
O, jewel of my soul!
O, Jesus, Jesus, enkindle
Thyself the light unto me,
That I might know and understand
What delights thee!
7. Choral / soprane
Er ist auf Erden kommen arm,
Da er unser sich erbarm,
Und in dem Himmel mache reich
Und seinen lieben Engeln gleich.

That he might take pity on us,
To make us rich in Heaven,
And equal even to his beloved angels.

Wer will die Liebe recht erhhn,

For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower
of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth
away.
So seid geduldig.
Jakobus 5, 7
abgefallen.
Aber des Herrn Wort bleibet in Ewigkeit.
1. Petrus 1, 24 und 25
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower
of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth
away.
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.
kommen mit Jauchzen; ewige Freude wird ber ihrem Haupte sein;

A Man (as if reading)
Dear Brothers: I think that God has made us apostles the
most abject of mankind. We hunger and thirst, we are naked,
we are roughly handled, and we have no fixed abode They
curse us and we bless. They persecute us and we suffer it
They treat us as the scum of the earth, the dregs of humanity,
to this very day.
A Young Woman (as if reading)
Dear Folks: Jim looked very well on my first visit. With his
head clean-shaven, he looked about 19 years old. He says the
prison food is very good. For the first few days hes not allowed
any books except his Bible. When I hugged him he smelled so
good, a smell of clean plain soap; he smelled like a child when
you put him to bed.

Rejoice, O Virgin
O Virgin Mother of God, rejoice! O Mary, full of grace, the Lord
is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, for thou didst give birth to the Saviour
of our souls.
Blessed is the man that hath not walked in the counsel of the
ungodly. Alleluia. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
and the way of the ungodly shall perish. Serve the Lord with
fear, and rejoice unto Him with reverence. Blessed are all
they whose hope is in Him. Arise, O Lord: save me, O my God.
Salvation comes from the Lord, and Thy blessing is upon Thy
people. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy
Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Alleluia.
Glory to Thee, O Lord.
Psalms 12

O gentle radiance of the holy glory of the Immortal one, the
heavenly Father, holy and blessed, O Jesus Christ! In that we
now are come unto the setting of the sun, and behold the light
