Plot is the structure of a story and shows the causal arrangement of events. Freytag's Pyramid uses a five-part system to describe this with a climax surrounded by rising and falling action. Freytag's Pyramid is sometimes modified to extend slightly before and after the primary rising and falling action to allow for a warm-up and cool-down of the story. The components of plot structure include exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution.
