Forthisfeaturetooperate,themeterfirmwareandIONSetupmustbothbe
compatiblewithRapidMeterProgramming.Meterswithnewerversionsof
firmwarearerecognizedasrapidreadybyIONSetup.Ifeitherthedevice
firmwareortheversionofIONSetupdoesnotsupportRapidMeter
Programming,thentheoperationproceedsregularly,butwilltakelongerto
complete.

UsetheDesignercomponentofIONEnterpriseoruseIONSetuptocreateyour
customframeworks.
Designer Workflow
1.
InDesigner,createthedeviceframeworkusingthestandardworkflow(see
Designeronlinehelpfordetails).
2.
Savetheframeworkchangesonthetargetdevice,shutdownDesignerandstart
IONSetup.
3.
InIONSetup,rightclickonthedeviceandselectProperties(orclickEdit>
Properties).ClicktheToolstabandselectStoretofiletoreadtheframework
fromthedevice.
4.
ClickSave.Thefiledefaultsto.dcfformat.
AnysubsequentframeworkchangesmadethroughDesignerrequireyoutorepeat
theaboveworkflow.
ION Setup Workflow
TheIONSetupworkflowissimilartoDesigner:
1.
StartIONSetupandconnecttotheappropriatedevice.
2.
MakethedesiredframeworkchangesonthedeviceusingtheSetupAssistant.
Oncethisiscomplete,clicktheTemplatesetupscreenintheSetupAssistant
andselecttheSavetoPCtab.ClicktheSavebuttontostorethedevicesentire
configurationasa.dcffile.
OR
YoucanalsorightclickonthedeviceandselectProperties(orselectEdit>
Properties).ClicktheToolstabandselectStoretofiletouploadthe
frameworkfromthedevice.
Oncetheframeworkissavedin.dcfformat,thisfilecanbedistributedforfield
installation.

StartIONSetupandestablishcommunicationswiththedevice.
2.
ClickEdit>Properties(orrightclickonthedeviceandselectProperties)and
selecttheToolstab.TheDevicePropertieswindowappears.
3.
SelectRestorefromfile.
4.
Selecttheappropriateframeworkfile(.dcf)inthedialogbox.
5.
Confirmthedownloadoperation.
6.
Progressfeedbackissimilartotheexistingfirmwareupgradeinterface.
Timetocompletethedownloadisapproximately5minutes.
NOTE
Upgrading your devices firmware is an all or nothing operation where the existing device framework
is deleted and replaced by the new framework. If you choose to abort the upgrade, ION Setup provides
you with a list of the copy procedures that were successfully completed before they were stopped.
However, incremental framework changes or pasting discrete framework components are not supported.

subsequentdevicesusingtheSetupAssistant(Templatescreen).Thisisaone
timeeffort.
Timeestimate=~20minutes@9600baudusingtheopticalport.
3.
Insubsequentdevices,install/downloadtheframeworkusingIONSetupasper
theworkflowoutlinedinInstallingtheFrameworkontheMeter.Time
estimate=approximately5minutesperdevice.
TotalUPLOAD/DOWNLOADtime=20+5*(numberofdevicestoprogram).
e.g.50devicesitewithoneframework:
