Samples of acetone-toluene solutions ranging from 0-90% acetone by volume were prepared. The refractive index of each sample was measured using a refractometer. A calibration curve was created by plotting the volume percentage of acetone on the x-axis and refractive index on the y-axis. The calibration curve showed that as the concentration of acetone increased, the refractive index decreased, and as the concentration of toluene increased, the refractive index increased.

In the first phase, 20 sample of standard acetone in toluene were prepared

from 0% of acetone in toluene until 90%. Then, the refractive index was measured
by using refractometer. After that, calibration curve for acetone - toluene solutions
was made and shown in Table 1.3. In the calibration curve the volume %
represented on the x-axis while the Refractive index represented on the y-axis. In
addition, in Table 1.3 shows the percentage volume of acetone in toluene and
reflective index for each sample. From the table1 and Figure 1.1, we noticed that
whenever the concentration of acetone increase the reflective index decrease in the
solution. In other word, when the concentration of toluene increase the refractive
index increase in the solution.
