AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)
Prepare index cards with the following verses on one side and the corresponding questions on the other side (Do not include the
answers). As children arrive, ask them to select a card, look up the verse, and write the answer to the question on the back of the card.
Tell the children to keep the cards, as each scripture will be discussed in the lesson.
Deuteronomy 32:4 - What makes God holy? (He is perfect.)
Leviticus 20:8 How can we be holy? (By obeying God.)
Psalm 34:9 How can we be holy? (By fearing God.)
Psalm 111:9 What does Gods holiness provide? (Redemption and salvation through Jesus.)
Isaiah 5:16 How will Gods holiness be proved? (Through his righteous actions, e.g. justice.)
OPENING PRAYER AND PRAISE (5 minutes)
MEMORY WORK (12 minutes)
"He is the Rock, his ways are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he."
Deuteronomy 32:4 NIV
Ask the class to read the verse out loud with you. Then sing it together as a class to the music of Amazing Grace (repeating the last
two measures of music to sing the scripture reference). Have the children sing with you at least two more times.
SCRIPTURE READING AND DISCUSSION (15 minutes)
Introduction:
Today we will learn what the Bible says about Gods holiness. Have your index cards ready from the beginning of class, and we will
discuss your answers with each scripture.
Read Deuteronomy 32:4
Explain that Gods perfection is what makes Him holy, and ask for additional input from any children who answered the index card. Say,
God is fair and without sin even when we dont understand His will. We can trust that His decisions are always the best decisions.
Read Leviticus 20:8 and Psalm 34:9
Ask the children with the corresponding index cards to read the passage(s) and share their answers. Draw the conclusion that
obedience and respectful fear of God makes us set apart like Him.
Read Psalm 111:9
Say, God has proven His holiness to us by sending Jesus to die for our sins. If He wasnt holy, then there would have been no reason
for His sinless, perfect Son to die for us. Ask for childrens answers to the scripture.
Read Isaiah 5:16
Ask the children with the corresponding index cards to read the passage and share their answers. Emphasize that Gods holiness is
proved through all His other attributes (e.g. justice), so that is how we know being holy is His primary feature.

AS KIDS ARRIVE (10 minutes)
Ask the children to sit on the floor in front of you. Read Leviticus 20:8 and explain to the children that this Bible verse talks about
obeying God because He is perfect and does nothing wrong. Next, sing the first verse of the hymn Holy, Holy, Holy and repeat the
verse at least two more times while encouraging the children to sing along.
WORSHIP TIME (5 minutes)
BIBLE VERSE (12 minutes)
"He is the Rock, his ways are perfect, and all his ways are just." Deuteronomy 32:4a NIV
This verse will remind children that God is perfect and holy and they can trust in His care.
BIBLE STORY (15 minutes)
Gather the children around you in preparation for story time. If possible, use a Children's Bible so it will be easier for the kids to
understand.
Introduction:
Moses was a mighty leader of Gods people. He helped them escape from slavery in Egypt and led them to a very special place God
had prepared for them to live. However, Moses was very old and God told him that his helper, Joshua, would be the new leader in the
new land. Moses then spoke the words to a song in front of Joshua and encouraged all the people to keep obeying God.
Read Deuteronomy 32:3-4 (God is worthy of praise because He is holy.)
Discussion Questions:
1. These verses tell us that God is perfect. What is another word for perfect? (Holy.)
2. What are some ways we can praise God for His holiness? (Through prayer, singing, learning about Him, etc.)
3. Why arent we holy, or perfect, like God? (Because we disobey.)
Read Romans 6:22-23 (God sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin.)
Discussion Questions:
1. What is the punishment for sin? (Death.)
2. How did God, in His holiness, set us free from sin? (By sending Jesus to die for us so we may have eternal life.)
Conclusion
God is Holy because He is perfect and does nothing wrong. Because of His holiness He provided a way for us to have a relationship
with Him and go to Heaven when we die. When we ask God to forgive our sins and trust in Jesus as our Savior, then we become Gods
children.
FUN TIME (15 minutes)
God is Holy (Craft)
GOD IS HOLY
The children will create a craft to remind them that God is holy.
TOPICS:
Holiness, Knowing God
MATERIALS:
Colored construction paper
3-4 Glue sticks, marker
Pre-drawn Shapes (crosses, hearts, music notes, praying
hands, Bibles, etc)
Glitter glue (for the Increased-difficulty option)
DURATION:
Approximately 15 minutes
PREPARATION:
Print and cutout the shapes. Write, God is Holy at the top of each piece of paper with a marker. Disperse the pre-drawn shapes and
glue sticks along the table(s) so the children can choose which shapes to use.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Before starting the craft explain what each of the shapes represent. Allow each child to pick their desired color of construction paper.
Then ask them to pick shapes that remind them of Gods holiness, or perfection, and glue them to their paper (assist younger children
with glue application). As they work, tell the children that because God is holy He requires a payment for sin. Jesus died to pay for our
sins so we can know God and go to Heaven. Also, encourage the children to praise God for His holiness through prayer, singing,
reading the Bible, and telling others about Him.
Time-Saving Option: Cut bigger and fewer shapes so the children will not have as many items to glue.
Increased-Difficulty Option: Let the children pick the shape they feel most represents Gods holiness and decorate it with glitter glue.
TOPICS:
Holiness, Knowing God, Sin
MATERIALS:
Play money
Various recycled food boxes and containers (such as
cereal, pasta, milk, etc)
Marker, sticker price tags
Medium card stock, scissors
DURATION:
Approximately 10 minutes
PREPARATION:
Print the play money on medium card stock and cut out the coins. Write a small dollar amount on each price tag and place a tag on
each recycled food container. Set up the containers on a side table or on the floor.
WHAT YOU WILL SAY:
Give each child the same amount of play money and tell all of them that they are going to pretend they are at a grocery store. They will
pick one or two items and pay for them with their money. Help the children decide which items to purchase depending on how much
money they have. Then they will pay for their items by giving you the correct amount of money. After all the children have paid for their
items, tell them the items are like sin, or the bad things we do. Because only God is perfect and holy, we have no way to pay for them!
Help the children understand that the play money is like Jesus paying for our sin by dying on the cross. Without money, there is no way
to pay for our sins. When we trust in Jesus as our Savior, He pays for our sins through His perfect sacrifice.
Time-Saving Option: Make all the food boxes/containers the same price to avoid confusion, especially among younger children.
Increased-Difficulty-Option: Mark different prices on the food boxes/containers so children may practice adding money.
