Q: What type of material is covered in the CCENT competition?

A: The theoretical exam focuses on CCENT certification knowledge and skills. The questions are
based on the contents of the CCENT certification exam (ICND1) which covers testing knowledge and
skills required to successfully install, operate, and troubleshoot a small branch office network. It may
also include topics on the operation of IP data networks, LAN switching technologies, IPv6, IP routing
technologies, IP services (DHCP, NAT, ACLs), network device security, and basic troubleshooting.
There will also be some Internet of Everything (IoE) and soft skills questions. In addition, there are
integrated Packet Tracer 6.2 activities.

Q: Where do students compete?

A: Students compete online at www.academynetriders.com and represent their academy
where they are currently taking or have recently completed a level 1 or 2 CCNA course.
Q: What does it cost to register for the competition?
A: Registration and participation in the NetRiders competition is free of charge.
Q: What languages can students compete in?
A: For the Asia Pacific and Japan CCENT competition, the competition is only offered in
English.
Q. What are the equipment and software requirements for participation?
A: The standard CCNA Routing and Switching PC or Laptop as described under the Programs menu
(Equipment Information pulldown option) in Cisco NetAcad.com. The computer needs to be able to
access the Internet and run Packet Tracer 6.2 or higher. IMPORTANT NOTE: Packet Tracer 6.2 or
higher must be installed and operation tested prior to exam date. You can download the mores
current version of Packet Tracer from the Cisco NetAcad.com website at
https://www.netacad.com/group/offerings/packet-tracer (post-login).
Contact the Academy Support Desk for further assistance on Packet Tracer installation.
Packet Tracer needs to be installed on a Windows desktop or laptop computer. You cannot
use it on Unix, Mac or PT mobile. Versions 6.2 and 6.3 do not work well with Ultra HD.
We recommend that you test all this downloading and opening a PT file from a Packet
Tracer exam on the Practice Site page.
If you cannot view the PT file, you may need to re-install PT. You will need to wipe off PT
completely and re-install PT 6.2 or higher which means finding the windows folder where the
PT files exist and deleting them.
Our technical staff has said that virtual machine does not recognize pkz files due to temp
files.
Q: What are the key dates for this competition?
A: Below are the dates to know for the competition:
10 May 5 August Registration for the actual competition page is open for student
competitors. Instructors should also register as they will be needed to proctor any of their
students who advance to Round 2. The Practice Site is also available (separate enrollment
required) to sample questions, test graphics viewing, PT file downloading, bandwidth, firewall
and proxy settings.
11 August from 9:30 to 17:30 GMT+8 - Round One Competition competitors must login
during this time and complete both Round One exams. Round One is non-proctored and

students may login from any location with a good Internet connection. They need to have
Packet Tracer 6.2 or higher installed on the computer before they login.
25 August Round One email notifications sent to those who advance to Round Two.
Rankings from Round One will also be posted on the competition page.
7 September Competitors who advance to Round 2 must have completed the Proctor
Information Task by this date so we can email the proctors the Round 2 exam passwords on
13 September.
15 September from 9:30 to 17:30 GMT+8 Round Two Competition competitors must be
proctored at their academy while they login during this time and complete both Round Two
exams. Some countries will have designated locations to attend at and they will be emailed
that information by 31 August if it is a requirement. It is the competitors responsibility to
know the times for their location.
23 September Round Two email notifications sent to those who win prizes. Declaration
forms will need to be signed and returned by student (and parent/legal guardian if prize
winner is under 18 years of age). Round Two Rankings will also be posted on the competition
page.

Routing Protocols and Concepts

Q: Can a student competitor be enrolled in more than one competition in the same
calendar year?
A: No, students may not be concurrently enrolled in two or all three competitions. They must
select the competition that best fits with the courses they are taking or have completed.
Q: Can a student competitor enroll in the same competition (CCNA, CCENT or IT
Essentials) two or three years in a row?
A: No, beginning with 2016, students may not participate in any level of competition (CCNA,
CCENT or IT Essentials) more than one time. In 2016, we will check to see if someone
participated in the 2015 CCENT competition. If they did and enrolled in 2016 CCENT
competition, they will be disqualified from the CCENT competition. It is important for students
to be strategic as to which year they compete in each level of competition as they will only be
able to compete in each level once in their NetRiders career.
Q: What counts as participation in a previous year?
A: Once a student opens a Round 1 exam in any level of competition (CCNA, CCENT or IT
Essentials), that will count as participation in that competition level for the year. It will count
even if they do not answer any questions. Opening an exam requires a student to put in the
exam password and submit it so it is not something that can be done by accident.
Q: How does a student decide which competition to enroll in?
A: Competitors must meet all the eligibility requirements for a specific competition so it is the
responsibility of each competitor to read all the eligibility requirements listed in the legal
Terms and Conditions. Please use this table as a guideline to determine which competition
to enroll in based on the courses you are taking or have recently completed:

CCENT Recommendation: Because you can only compete in each level one time ever, we
recommend that you enroll in the CCENT competition once you have enrolled in both level 1
and level 2 CCNA courses. If you are only enrolled in the 1st CCNA course and do not meet
eligibility for the IT Essentials competition this year, we recommend that you do not participate
in NetRiders in 2016 and wait to enroll in the CCENT competition until 2017 after you have
taken both of the level 1 and 2 CCNA courses.

Q: Can a student competitor be enrolled in a CCNA Security or CCNP course and still
be eligible to compete?
A: Yes, but only if the student is either currently enrolled or was recently enrolled in a level 1
or 2 course in CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Discovery, or CCNA Exploration course
within the 10 month rule listed within the Eligibility requirements listed in Section 1 of the
Terms and Conditions and as long as the student has not completed all 4 CCNA courses.
Q: Can a student competitor be enrolled in a level 3 or 4 CCNA course and still be
eligible to compete?
A: Yes, but only if the student is either currently enrolled or was recently enrolled in a level 1
or 2 course in CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Discovery, or CCNA Exploration course
within the 10 month rule listed within the Eligibility requirements listed in Section 1 of the
Terms and Conditions. But, if a student has completed all 4 CCNA courses, they may only
compete in the CCNA competition as long as they meet all eligibility requirements for the
CCNA competition.
Q: Can a student competitor be enrolled in an IT Essentials course and still be eligible
to compete?
A: Yes, but only if the student is either currently enrolled or was recently enrolled in a level 1
or 2 course in CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Discovery, or CCNA Exploration course
within the 10 month rule listed within the Eligibility requirements listed in Section 1 of the
Terms and Conditions.

Q: Does both the students start and end date of the eligible Cisco CCNA Routing and
Switching, CCNA Discovery, or CCNA Exploration course have to be within the 10
month timeframe (11 July 2015 10 May 2016)?

FAQ Asia Pacific and Japan 2016 NetRiders CCENT Competition

Page 6

A: No, the start date of the course may have been earlier than 11 July 2015 but on that date,
the student must have been enrolled in an eligible course that ends 11 July 2015 or later (the
course end date can be later than 10 May 2016).
that ends 16 August 2015 or later (the course end date can be later than 15 June 2016).
Acceptable scenarios:
1. Enrolled in Introduction to Networks starting 10 June 2015 and ending 30 August 2015.
2. Currently enrolled in Scaling Networks with a course end date of 20 September 2016. Enrolled in
Routing and Switching Essentials starting 10 September 2015 and ending 15 December 2015.
(NOTE: A student with this scenario may choose whether to participate in the CCENT competition
or the CCNA competition, but not both.)

Unacceptable scenarios:
1. Has already completed all 4 CCNA courses.
2. Enrolled in Introduction to Networks starting 10 April 2015 and ending 20 June 2015 and has not
taken a CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Discovery or CCNA Exploration since.

Q: Can a competitor have both a student and instructor role and be eligible to
participate?
A: No, if anyone holds an instructor or staff role in Cisco NetAcad.com or previously held an
instructor or staff role, they are not eligible to compete in the any NetRiders competition and
will be disqualified.
Q: Does the student competitor have to be a citizen of the countries eligible for this
competition?
A: No, a competitor may be from any country but must be currently residing legally in a
country in Asia Pacific or Japan and be taking or have recently taken a qualifying course at
an academy within the participating countries in the Asia Pacific and Japan region.
Q: Can a student competitor who is residing in another country but taking an online
course at an academy in Asia Pacific and Japan compete?
A: No, a competitor must be currently residing in a participating country in the Asia Pacific
and Japan region and be taking or have recently completed a qualifying course on an
academy campus in one of the participating countries in Asia Pacific and Japan.
Q: Can a competitor work at Cisco through a third party vendor and be eligible to
participate?
A: No, if anyone is working at Cisco either as a direct employee or through a third party
vendor and has a Cisco email and/or badge, they are not eligible to compete in any
NetRiders competition and will be disqualified.
Q: What happens if a competitor does not meet ALL eligibility requirements?
A: Competitors will be disqualified from the competition if they do not meet all eligibility
requirements. Disqualification normally happens after Registration closes but before the
Round 1 exams are open. But, some eligibility requirements may not be caught until after
Round 1 and if a student competed in the wrong level and gets disqualified, that will still count
as participation and they will not be eligible for that level ever again. Therefore, it is important
that students read all eligibility requirements for a competition level before they register a
competition or open a Round 1 exam.

PROCTOR INFORMATION TASK

Q: What is the Proctor Information Task?
A: The Proctor Information Task is a task that student competitors complete designating the
instructor or staff who will proctor them for Round 2 which takes place on Thursday, 15
September 2016.
Q: When do competitors complete the Proctor Information Task?
A: The competitors who qualify to advance to Round 2 will be asked to complete the task
between 26 August and 7 September.
Q: How do competitors complete the Proctor Information Task?
A: After Round 1 results are posted on 25 August, on the competition page there will be a
link named Proctor Information Task. Round 2 Competitors click on that link and on the next
page they need to select their instructor from the drop down menu. The proctor names are
listed alphabetically by last name and also include the academy name, city and country.
Note: If the Instructors NetRiders profile has a different academy name listed but you know
the first and last name are correct, please go ahead and select that name. Some
instructors/staff members are associated with multiple academies but only one gets pulled
into the NetRiders profile.
Q: What do instructors need to do so their students can complete the Proctor
Information Task?
A: Instructors/staff need to register on the NetRiders site and enroll in the Asia Pacific and
Japan 2016 CCENT NetRiders competition (during registration from 10 May 5 August). This
will put the instructor in the Instructor-Observer which will allow the instructors name to
appear in a drop-down list of instructors for student competitors to complete this task after
Round 1 results are announced.

Q. Does the proctor have to be the students current Networking Academy instructor?
A: No, but the proctor must be a current Cisco Networking Academy Instructor or Cisco Networking
Academy staff member (NetAcad Contact, NetAcad Staff, NetAcad Success Lead, Instructor Trainer,
or Instructor Training Center Staff). The NetAcad staff member proctoring must have a Cisco
NetAcad.com screen name and password and also register on the actual competition page between
10 May 5 August 2016.
FAQ Asia Pacific and Japan 2016 NetRiders CCENT Competition

Page 11

Q. If I am not currently enrolled in a Cisco Networking Academy course, how do I meet the
proctoring requirement?
A: It is your responsibility to ask your former Cisco Networking academy instructor or any NetAcad
instructor/staff member at the academy you attend or attended to proctor you during Round 2. You
will also need to make sure your proctor registers during the registration period so you can complete
the Proctor Information Task should you advance to Round 2.
Q: What happens if I cannot find my instructor/staff member on the drop-down list in
the Proctor Information Task?
A: There are a few reasons your instructor/staff may not show up in the drop-down list:
1. You do not have the full name of your proctor as listed in their Cisco NetAcad.com
profile so you are not looking for the correct name.
2. The instructor/staff has not registered on that competition page. Some
instructors/staff create a profile on the NetRiders website but do not use the
enrolment key to actually register for the Asia Pacific and Japan 2016 CCNA
competition page. They need to complete this step.
3. You need to look for their last name first in the proctor list.
4. You see the name of your proctor but the Academy name next to it says the name
of an academy you do not go to. If you know the proctors name is correct, go
ahead and select it even if it does not have the academy name listed correctly.

Q: Can I be disqualified if I do not complete the Proctor Information Task for Round 2?
A: Yes, student competitors may be disqualified if they do not complete this required task.
We will only be emailing the proctors selected in this task the exam passwords for Round 2.
Q: What should I do if my proctoring instructor/staff member never registered and
registration is closed?
A: Your proctoring instructor/staff member will need to first create a profile on the NetRiders
site. Then your proctoring instructor/staff member will need to email the administrators at
[email protected] and ask to be added as a proctor. In the email, the
instructor should include full name, Cisco NetAcad.com screen name, email address
associated with Cisco NetAcad.com profile, country, and the request to be added as a
Proctor to the Asia Pacific and Japan 2016 CCENT NetRiders competition.

A: Round 1 is on Thursday, 11 August 2016 from 9:30-17:30 GMT+8.
Round 2 is on Thursday, 15 September 2016 from 9:30-17:30 GMT+8. For Round 2, competitors
must compete at their academy proctored by a Cisco Networking Academy Instructor or Staff.
Some countries may require that you go to a designated location. If that is your country,
you will be notified via email by 31 August, 2016.
For Rounds 1 and 2, it is the Contestants responsibility to know the time zone for the country they are located.
We recommend using http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/ to confirm your current time zone, especially if
you live in a country that has more than one time zone or that observes Summer Time. The competition
exams will only be accessible during the following times:
GMT+5:00 (Maldives) competes from 6:30-14:30
GMT+5:30 (India, Sri Lanka) competes from 7:00-15:00
GMT+5:45 (Nepal) competes from 7:15-15:15
GMT+6:00 (Bangladesh, Bhutan) competes from 7:30-15:30
GMT+7:00 (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam) competes from 8:30-16:30
GMT+8:00 (Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Western Australia) competes from 9:30-17:30
GMT+9:00 (Central Australia, Japan, Korea) competes from 10:30-18:30
GMT+10:00 (Eastern Australia, Papua New Guinea) competes from 11:30-19:30
GMT+12:00 (Fiji, New Zealand for Round One) competes from 12:30-20:30
GMT+13:00 (New Zealand for Round Two, Samoa, Tonga) competes from 13:30-21:30
The exams for each round do not take 8 hours but competitors need to complete both exams within
the 8 hour block of time. If the last exam you are taking takes 60 minutes, you must begin it at least
an hour before the end time listed above. Otherwise you will get cut off even if the timer on the actual
exam says you have time.

Q: Is the competition proctored?

A: Round 1 is not proctored and contestants may take the Round 1 exams from any
location. Round 2 is proctored and contestants must go to their academy during the
Round 2 dates and times to be proctored by the Instructor or Staff member they selected in
the Proctor Information Task. Some countries will require Round 2 competitors to go to a
designated location. The list of countries requiring this will be listed when the Round 1
results are posted on 25 August and those competitors will be sent an email by 31 August.

Q: Which browser should students use when accessing the competition exams?
A: Students should access competition page using Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer as
their browser. These are the two browsers that are fully supported. If students use Chrome,
Opera, Safari or any other browser, they may have issues and that can cause students to
lose time. Please make sure to use either Firefox or IE when accessing this competition.
Q: Can students use a calculator when taking the exams?
A: Students may use a calculator to compute area and money conversions and basic
arithmetic. Students may not use a calculator for IP number conversions or hexadecimal
conversions.

Q: Can competitors use external aids when taking the exams?

A: No external aids, including but not limited to books or websites, may be used for the
exams. The only acceptable notes are Engineer Journal Notes taken from the Packet Tracer
activity and/or exam.
Q: Can competitors pause the exam once opened?
A: No. For each exam, the time begins once you enter the exam password and click the OK
button. Competitors may not pause an exam once they have started it.
Q: Can competitors change their answers?
A: Yes. Competitors should use the save without submitting button as they work through
the exam questions. Normally about 10 questions will show per page. Competitors will be
able to move back and forth between all pages and review their answers and make changes
as long as they have time left on the exam timer.
Q: Do competitors need to save and submit their final answers?
A: Yes. The exams are automatically disabled after the time limit is up. It is important to
submit scores using the Submit all and finish button before the time runs out. This button
will close the exam and you will not be able to access that exam again.
Q: Are competitors penalized for incorrect answers?
A:
On single select answers, only correct answers count for points so competitors are not
penalized for an incorrect answer
On multiple select answers (where there are 2, 3 or 4 statements to select as answers),
competitors will be penalized for incorrect answers selected

Q: What can I do if I have trouble with my Internet connection after I open an exam?
A: Competitors are responsible for their connectivity issues. That is why we strongly
recommend you take the practice exams from the location you plan to compete from to test
bandwidth, image loading and PT file downloading and configuring. If you lose Internet
connectivity during an exam, log back in quickly and open the exam again. You will only
have the time remaining on the timer. We will not reset exams due to connectivity issues.

Q: What can I do if I have trouble viewing an image in an exam?

A: If an image is not displaying properly, do not panic. First, make sure you are logged in
using either Firefox or Internet Explorer as your browser. Then, you may either skip that
question or you may take a minute to email the NetRiders team at
[email protected]. Indicate which exam you are in (CCENT exam or
CCENT Packet Tracer exam) and the question number where the image is not displaying
properly. Make sure to include your name and the email address associated with your
NetAcad.com account in the email. The NetRiders team will verify that you are currently
taking the exam and they will email you the image. While you are waiting for the image via
email, please skip that question and continue working on the other questions. The exam
timer cannot be paused so you do not want to waste valuable time. We will not make
any concessions for images not shown as it is caused by a bandwidth, firewall, or proxy
setting on your end or the use of a browser that we do not recommend.

Q: Why arent scores or results on individual questions provided to student
competitors or instructors?
A: This is a competition during a specific block of time. We do not want competitors to share
results using social media or other venues that would give other competitors an unfair
advantage. Therefore, we keep all scores and results private and accessible to competition
administrators only. This is our global policy for all NetRiders competitions.
Q: How is each Round structured and scored?
A: The details on the structures of the exams in each round and how they are scored can be

promoting the competition to their students (there is a classroom poster PDF available on
the NetRiders page for your region that you may download and print)

verifying that the students register for the actual competition before Registration closes
on Friday, 5 August (not just on the NetRiders website or on the practice site page)
Verifying that students are registering for the level of competition that they are eligible. If
they are eligible for more than one based on course eligibility, please help them be
strategic in which year they should compete in each level. Students may only compete in
one level in a calendar year and beginning with 2016 competitions, they may only compete
in each level one time. That means that a student may not compete in CCNA two years in
a row or even one year, take a break and then compete in CCNA the 3rd year. As the
CCNA competition is the only competition that awards the Study Trip Prize, students will
want to make sure they are competing in the CCNA competition the one year they feel
most ready based on courses completed and that they meet the 10 month course eligibility
rule.
Registering during the Registration period in the CCENT competition in preparation for
proctoring the Round 2 competitors from your academy on Thursday, 15 September 2016.
Supervising the Round 2 competitors on 15 September 2016 and providing them with the
exam passwords.
Q: I am an instructor but I cannot access the Practice Exams on the Practice Site.
A: All instructors who register in a competition are automatically assigned the role of InstructorObserver. That role does not get access to the exams. But, we within 5 days of registering in the
Practice Site, we will move you into the Competitor role to dice you access to the practice
exams. There is no need to email us. We will do this automatically each week. If you have an
urgent need to be moved, then send an email with that request.
Q: I am an instructor and would like to know which students of mine have registered.
A: As an instructor, you can use the same enrolment key your students use to enroll in one, two or
all three levels of competitions. In the Instructor-Observer role, the instructor has access to see the
Participants list by clicking on the link displayed on the upper left side of the competition
page. Instructors can click on the columns and sort by country, academy name or individual names.
