Ang AIDS o Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome ay kondisyon ng

HIV AND AIDS

AIDS - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
caused by HIV or Human
Immunodeficiency Virus.
HIV may live in the human
body for years and can be
spread to others.
HIV lowers the persons body
defense mechanism rendering
the body unable to fight
diseases & infections.
People infected with HIV usually look and feel
healthy and may not know that they had been
infected for many years.
The persons HIV status can only be
determined
through the HIV Antibody Testing.
HIV IS TRANSMITTED THROUGH

Unprotected (not using condom) sexual

intercourse
Receiving infected blood and blood products
in a transfusion or organ transplant
Sharing of needles and other skin piercing
instruments
From HIV positive mother to her baby during
pregnancy and breastfeeding
HIV TESTING

It takes 3 months for HIV Antibody to be detected in

blood. This is called the WINDOW PERIOD.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU NOTICE SIGNS

AND SYMPTOMS OR HAD UNPROTECTED SEX
WITH A PERSON WHO YOU THINK HAS STI

COMMON SIGNS AND

SYMPTOMS OF STI

Consult a doctor IMMEDIATELY. Do NOT self

medicate.
Take and finish all the medications
prescribed by the doctor, otherwise the
infection will not be cured.
Return for a follow up to make sure you are
completely treated to avoid complications.
Have your sexual partner treated and
counseled.
Do not have sex while you and your partner
are under treatment, if you do, use protection
(e.g. condom, dental dam, etc)
Do not douche. It can cause further
infection. (Douching is the washing of the
inner part of the vagina with the use of
cleansing agents.) Douching does not treat
STI.
