Guidelines for FY BSc in Computer System Administration Students


Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding the Project Topic
1. What should be the subject of my project?
Answer:
Your project is expected to be the report of your work at the Work Lab in last 2 semesters.
You have worked on one or many tools and procedures.
Hence the topic of the project should be the name of one of the tools or technology you
worked in.
For example:
o Configuring Domain settings
o Troubleshooting Hardware
o Monitoring Servers and Network connections
2. What should be the title of the project?
Answer:
The technology should be the title of your project.
Please ensure that the title should NOT be too long.
It should simply define the outcome of the process.
For e.g. Monitoring web servers using Nagios

Regarding the Contents


1. How many pages should be there in my report?
Answer.
Your Project report should be of 5-10 Pages in total.
Try that your project should look concise but the subject should be explained in detail
covering all the aspects of the process.
2. What should be the Chapters of the report?
Answer.
Your Chapters should be:
1) Introduction: Give a brief description of your work lab like name, type of business, various
processes it is involved in etc.
2) Technologies Used:
Name and describe the technology you are working on
persons involved in the process,
your role in the process,

Tools Description:
define the objective of the tool or software,
include atleast 3 screen shots showing implementation of the tool
The number of persons and their respective roles required to accomplish the process.
The skills of the persons required to accomplish the process.
Describe your role and day to day activities.
Challenges:
What are the various problems that come up while performing the process?
How frequently they happen
Which of them are very crucial and important
Which of them needs more focus and attention
Which of them needs immediate solution
How these problems should be prioritized
Find out the source of these problems and methods to address them
Real Life Experiences/ Learnings: Describe certain challenging situations you came across
during your work and how you overcame or resolved the issue.
Results/Conclusions:
Mention how your solutions improved the process.
What are your conclusions based on the results.
Analyse the outcomes/results with a business perspective.
In which other areas these tools and technologies are applicable or can be beneficial.
What are the benefits of the tools and technologies?
The usefulness of the process from an individual, business and social perspective.

General Guidelines of Project Report
Margins:
Left and Right Margin: 1.5 inch
Top and Bottom Margin: 1 inch
Line Spacing:
Single line spacing.
Space after paragraph: 12 pt.
Font:
Chapter/Section Titles: Times New Roman, black, 16/14 point
Running Text: Times New Roman, black, 12 point
Page Numbering:
No page numbering for preliminary pages
Page numbering should start from chapter-one (Introduction)
The page numbers must be bottom-centered to the text (font Times New
Roman: 10 points)
Layout:
The manuscript of the report should be organized in the following
sequence:
Preliminary pages
The body of the project (chapters)
The bibliography
Appendices
Chapter should start on new page
Leave an extra space after title
Since you will have several levels of subheadings, distinguish one level from
another in a consistent way, such as (1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.2).
Avoid having more than three levels of subheadings.
Printing:
The print should be best quality
Printing on both sides
Length of Project report (Excluding programme listing):
Not more than 100 pages

Binding:
The project report must be in Spiral binding.
The outside cover of the project report should be the title page of your
report and the lettering must be printed in bold.

Cover Page: Cover page should show

Title page: This should show

The name of the university


The full title of the project, the initials and surname of the students
The degree for which the thesis is submitted: B.Sc in CSA
The year of submission
Full title of the project
Students names in full with PRN
The degree for which the thesis is submitted
The name of the school which has offered the program
The name of the university
Date of submission. (dd/ mm/yyyy)

Approval Page (completion certificate):


Internal as well as External guides should sign this page in order to assure that they have
seen and approved the final version of the report

Acknowledgements:
The acknowledgment should not be more than one page.
The student may acknowledge financial support, permission to use copy-righted
materials, trademarks, service marks, personal assistance etc.

Table of contents:
It should be left justified, Font: Times New Roman 12 (student may use Table of content
feature available in MS-WORD)
