The document calculates the makeup water requirement for an air washer unit used in a ventilation system. It determines that the water loss due to evaporation in cooling the air from 50°C to 32°C is 0.513 cubic meters. Adding further water loss factors, the total makeup water requirement is estimated to be 2-3% of the pump capacity, which is 62 cubic meters per hour.

SAMPLE CALCULATION OF MAKE-UP WATER
WASHER UNIT FOR VENTILATION SYSTEM (V7)
REQUIREMENT
OF
AIR
Capacity of the Air Washer Unit 61,000 CMH
Capacity of the pump selected based on above Air Flow rate 62 CMH Dry Bulb Temperature (DBT) of air at Inlet of Air Washer Unit 50Deg.C (Maximum temperature as per Site condition) and Relative Humidity (RH) of air 26% (During summer) Density of air at 50 Deg.C 1.109 kg/m Inlet water temperature at Air washer Unit 20 Deg.C (assumed) Density of water at 20 Deg.C 998.2 kg/m As per enclosed Psychometric chart, Corresponding to DBT-50 and RH-26%, The moisture content at the inlet of Air Washer Unit 20 gm/kg a Dry Bulb Temperature (DBT) at the outlet of Air Washer Unit- 32 Deg.C (with 90% Saturation Efficiency) and the Moisture content 27.5 gm/kg a Hence, water loss due to evaporation may be considered as (27.5-20) =7.5 gm/kg a i.e, 0.0075x1.109 (m of water/m of air) = 833x10-5 m of water/m of air 998.2 Now, considering the air flow rate of the Air Washer Unit, total quantity of water loss due to evaporation 833x10-5x61000 = 0.513m of water which is around 0.82% of the pump capacity. With evaporation loss and loss due to carry over of moisture, the makeup water requirement may be considered as 2-3% of the pump capacity.
