Description of Plan for Internship Experience

This year Sherman Central School District has revamped their summer school model. It will now
take place over 5 weeks, for eight hours a day. Students going into grades K-6 will attend the
camp. The program will be comprised of busing, academic courses, recreation, lunch, breakfast,
field trips, and other special activities. Teachers and possibly camp counselors will be hired to
teach, take attendance, help with feedings, and supervise field trips. Teachers will be selected
based on proposals they submit for courses to me. I will oversee and plan the camp as my
internship experience. This will include the following; planning the overall structure, handling
school community relations, securing funds, overseeing personnel, handling discipline,
organizing activities, and help with general day to day operations.
Anticipated Schedule School/Work
Between June 15th and September 1st, I will work every
(Daily)
day for 10 hours a day on my internship.
Between June 15th and September 1st, I will work Monday through
Internship Schedule
Friday for ten hours each day.
Explain the Steps You Have Taken or Plan to Take to Finalize Your Schedule
I have met with both my principal and superintendent twice to discuss a plan for hours. After
receiving feedback from Dr. McDonough both times I called each of them to discuss the
feedback and how we should plan the internship. I will also email each of them a copy of this
application.

Explain How Your Internship Responsibilities Will be Beneficial to the School District.
This is a brand new program for the Sherman community. It will provide the students of
Sherman breakfast and lunch every day, a safe place to be, positive role models, new
experiences, constructive activities, and academics to help stave off regression. It will also help
the areas economy, as it is totally free, so parents will not have to pay high day care costs
throughout the summer.
Explain How You Feel the Internship Will Help You Including Your Analysis of Areas that Require
Strengthening.
I hope to grow as a leader in all aspects, but especially in the areas of discipline and working
with personnel. This internship will give me daily practice in both of these areas. I will be
overseeing both students and teachers throughout the program to make sure everyone has a
positive experience. Given this is a pilot program; it is imperative that it be a successful and
positive experience for all those involved. Hopefully this program will be able to grow to reach
more ages in future years.

Bryna Booths SBL Internship PROPOSAL

I. Intended Audience
The intended audience of this proposal is the University Supervisor and other faculty in the EDL Department.
II. Philosophical Perspective
While in this internship I will act as a catalyst for change in the organization. I will strive to make a positive
difference in the organization and leave the program a stronger, more effective leader. While completing the
400 hours required of this internship experience and in my future career, I will adhere to the conceptual
framework by demonstrating competence, social justice, and using experience to become a better leader on a
daily basis. This specific internship experience will address the seven Educational Leadership Consortium
Council Standards. I will plan and assess the efficacy of the summer school program on a daily basis and work
to implement and develop the program in a way that all stakeholders support it. Through this program I will
insure that the school culture is one that promotes every students learning and the staffs professional
growth. Each student attending the program will be given an organized, efficient, safe, and effective learning
environment. Communication with families and the community has already begun to promote the program,
this will continue throughout the program. I will act with integrity and fairness every day. I will use this
program to help promote and influence the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural contexts. This
internship will guarantee me vast experience and practice with all of the standards mentioned.
III.Program Descriptions
This internship will take place over the months of June, July and August at Sherman Central School. This is a
prekindergarten through twelfth grade building. However, for the purposes of this program I will be working
with students entering kindergarten through sixth grade. The hours of the summer school (which from here on
will be referred to as Wildcat Weeks) are eight oclock to three oclock. I will work seven to four each day.
Three full time teachers will be hired and under my direction, along with another staff member that changes
on a daily basis. Field trips will take place once a week and recreational activities will be planned daily. Please
see below images for specific details about the Wildcat Weeks schedule and staffing. The link to the entire
slide show with details about Wildcat Weeks is https://app.emaze.com/@ALOFZWOR/final-boe-summer-campcopy1.

V. Means of Evaluation
Above I have outlined in the matrix dates and hours when certain artifacts will be worked on and completed.
Overall I hope to begin clocking hours as soon as possible and clock hours as long as I am able to. I will use
each day of the summer for between 8-10 hours of internship. I plan on getting to work by 7:30 each day and
leaving by 4:30. Once my job begins again in September I understand I will not be able to clock internship
hours while working, so I will work several vacation days as well as come in an hour early and stay an hour
late each day. The observational techniques employed will follow the Charlotte Danielson MPPR Rubrics. This
can be provided if needed. This is the same rubric I will be evaluated on once I am employed as a principal. All
conference forms, public relations materials, logs, meeting minutes, etc. will be provided upon completion of
the internship. Also, due to the fact that I work closely with my building principal and he will be informally
checking all of my work before I submit it to the public I will submit a log of his informal feedback and changes
that needed to be made to certain public relations materials, etc.
VI. Evaluation Tools
I will evaluate the competencies in the following ways:
A. Examination of interns reports (daily, weekly, monthly)
B. Conferences with University Supervisor
C. Conferences with Site Supervisor
D. Self Assessment Inventory (to be given to candidate at the final meeting with the university and site
supervisors)
E. Site Supervisors evaluations
F. University Supervisors evaluations
G. Other relevant information
H. Final report analyzing the total internship experience. It should include reflections about each target
competency area.

VII. Summary and Conclusions

In five years time I hope to be a building principal. This internship will give me real world experience working
with students and staff in a way that will benefit both the school and community of Sherman.
