Configuring UNI-UNI E-Line Services(Web LCT)

This section describes how to create an E-Line service that is transparently transmitted end to end or is
transmitted based on VLANs.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with NE operator authority or higher.

The Ethernet board must be added on the NE Panel.

The parameter Port Mode is set to Layer 2 for the UNI port that carries the E-Line service.

Tools, Equipment, and Materials

Web LCT

Procedure
1.

Select the NE from the Object Tree in the NE Explorer. Choose Configuration > Ethernet
Service Management > E-Line Service from the Function Tree.

2.

Click Create.

3.

Set Direction to UNI-UNI.

4.

Configure the attributes of the E-Line service.

5.

Click Port Attributes.

6.

Change the Ethernet port attributes of the source and sink ports. Click Apply Port Attributes.

Remark: when you perform ping test, please change the Port Attributes to NULL and BPDU
should be Transparent just like B/M:

7.
8.

Click OK.
Configure far end after finish the near end. And the flow should be same as near end. Make sure
the VLAN ID is the same.

2. Ping test
Procedure
1.

Use cable to connect the computer and GE port which have already be configured service. Make
sure the IP two computers at two sides in one sub-network. You can configure B/M two IPs:
129.9.0.250 255.255.0.0
129.9.0.251 255.255.0.0
2. Use one computer to Ping another computer and check the result.

3. OAM test
A. First configure Near end:
Creating MDs
A maintenance domain (MD) defines the scope and level of the Ethernet service OAM. The MDs of
different levels and scopes can provide differentiated OAM services to users.

Procedure
1.
2.

Select the NE from the Object Tree in the NE Explorer and choose Configuration > Ethernet
OAM Management > Ethernet Service OAM from the Function Tree.
In the right pane, click NEW.
The NEW dialog box is displayed.

NOTE:
In this GUI, you can maintain or delete OAM MDs.
3.

Click New and choose New MD from the drop-down list. The New MD dialog box is displayed.

4.

Set the parameters of the new MD.

5.

Click OK.

Creating MAs
A maintenance domain (MD) can be divided into several independent maintenance associations (MA). By
creating MAs, operators can associate specific Ethernet services with the MAs for easy Ethernet OAM
operation.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with NE operator authority or higher.

The ETH board must be added in the NE Panel.

The MD must be created.

Tools, Equipment, and Materials

U2000/Webct

Procedure
1.

Click New and choose NEW MA from the drop-down list

The NEW MA dialog box is displayed.

2.

Set the parameters of the new MA.

3.

Click OK.

Creating MPs
MPs refer to function entities of Ethernet service OAM, including MEPs and MIPs. The functions of the
Ethernet service OAM can be used only after MPs are created.

Prerequisites

You must be an NM user with NE operator authority or higher.

The ETH board must be added in the NE Panel.

The Ethernet services must be created and activated.

The MD and MA must be created.

U2000/WebLct

Precautions
In an OAM test, all MPs that are involved in the operation of the same service flow must be in the same
MD. In an existing MD involved in the same service flow, creating an MP of the same level or a higher
level may damage the existing MD. As a result, the OAM test fails.

Procedure
1.

Click New
The New MP dialog box is displayed.

2.

3.

Set the parameters of the new MP.

Remarks: the MEP ID need be different when you configure the far end. For example: you
can put 100 in near end and 101 for far end.

Manage Remote MEP point

Procedure
1. Click OAM and choose manage Remote MEP point:

2. Click New in the dialog box which have already displayed:

3. Configure like B/M:

Remark: this part we make the assumption that remote end point ID is 101.
4. Click OK, then close the dialog box.

B. Then configure Far end:

All the configure will be the same except MEP ID and far end remote end point ID just like B/M:

C. Start the LB test(near end)

Procedure
1. Click OAM and choose Start LB:

2. Choose the MP ID, and fill in the Destination maintenance point ID (101)
3. Click start test, the result will be showed like B/M pic:

D. Start the LT test(near end)

Procedure
1. Click OAM and choose Start LT:

2. Choose the MP ID, and fill in the Destination maintenance point ID (101)

3. Click start test, the result will be showed like B/M pic:

4. Test the Ethernet Service Performance

Testing Latency, Throughput, and Packet Loss Ratio
This part describes how to test the latency, throughput, and packet loss ratio of VLAN-based E-Line
services with different frame lengths.

Prerequisites

Antenna alignment is complete.

The Ethernet service to be tested must be an E-Line service between two NEs that adopt traffic
classification based on VLAN tags, or a PORT+VLAN<->PORT+VLAN E-Line service.

Tools, Equipment, and Materials

U2000
NOTE:
Web LCT also supports this operation and the steps are the same as those on the U2000.

Background Information
CAUTION:
During the test, do not modify any configuration.

The ports at the ends of the Ethernet service to be tested must be Ethernet ports. During the test,
the other Ethernet services on the related ports are interrupted.
If the tested service is configured with QoS, OAM, LAG, inband DCN or any data transmission
protocol, the precision of test results may be affected. To ensure the precision of test results, it is
recommended you delete the above configurations.
If the enabled source port of the tested service also transmits other services, the precision of test
results may be affected. To ensure the precision of test results, it is recommended you disconnect
the port from the other services.

Connection Diagram for the Test

The test procedure takes the Ethernet service between near end and far end, as shown in Figure 1, as
an example. Ethernet services on NE A and NE B are VLAN-based E-Line.
