THE PARISH NOTEBOOK

Serving the Congregation of St. Lukes Anglican Church Lyndhurst

Volume 29 Number 2
Summer 2016

We are certainly living into our theme for this

year: All Things New!
In November 2015, following the announcement
of the retirement of The Rev. Canon Karen
Freake, a group of lay leaders from our parish
invited others from area congregations to come
together and discuss how we might improve our
connections with each other in order to better
serve the ministry needs of our whole region. A
series of meetings with representatives of our
congregation and Emmanuel Church, Portland;
Holy Trinity, Lombardy; Holy Trinity, Oak Leaf;
Christ Church, Athens and The Parish of Kitley
followed, including the creation of steering
teams to discuss visioning, worship, finances
and administration. Executive Officer Alex
Pierson helped us through the process so that
on July 31 when we all met for worship at Christ
Church, Athens, Bishop Michael Oulton was
able to formally introduce a new regional
ministry grouping to enable us to move forward
in faith in this rapidly changing world. Effective
September 1st our regional grouping will
welcome The Rev. Trish Miller as Assistant
Curate and I will officially become Incumbent of
all these parishes. Each congregation and
parish will remain as such, but weve committed
to sharing in ministry together. There will be
some changes in worship scheduling so that
everyone can get to know both Trish and I, so
be sure to check the monthly schedules. What
a wonderful opportunity for us to share the gifts
we have, learn from each other, and worship
and serve together! One important piece of this
is missing - a name for this new entity. Submit
your suggestion to the wardens by October 1st
(there is a prize for the winner). Bishop Michael
will be with us for the celebration of new ministry
on October 23 rd at St. Lukes.
Thanks be to God, who indeed is making all
things new!

Nancy

Stewardship Team
Our Team has been very busy planning for
various events in the parish throughout the
year. We have begun to engage with a great
program gifted to us by the Diocese of
Toronto called Growing Healthy Stewards.
We are now gearing up for our Annual
Approach - an opportunity for each person in
our parish to learn about and contribute to
our parish vision and discern how God is
calling us to live into that vision. We will be
distributing, among other things, our Diocesan
and clergy/parish covenants, and information
about Diocesan visioning, pre-authorized and
proportional giving, GIVING WITH GRACE (the
new name for LOVE IN ACTION) and updated
regional information. And yes, beginning Oct.
17th, there will be dinners - YUM!

2016-2017 Ministry Plan

Narrative Budget
Why do we do what we do and give what we
give of our time, our talents and our financial
resources? In thanksgiving to God, the giver of
all blessings, and in generous response. In our
parish we discern our response - our mission
and ministry - and commit to it in our Ministry
Plan. This narrative budget estimates how our
line by line number budget for 2016 and the
many volunteer hours of our people make our
ministry and mission possible.
A summary of our finances for the first half of
the year is also included.
