SPECIFIC GOALS FOR THE COURSE
a. Course Objective
The course aims to let the students understand the different transmission media(wire, wireless, and
optical media) and antenna systems used in communications system; equip the students with the
practical know how and capability to design and conduct experiments in transmission lines,
waveguides, antenna system, an fiber optics, as well as to analyze and interpret data; and to provide
the students with the needed fundamental knowledge in the different applications of the various
transmission media used in telecommunications and ICT infrastructures.
b. Course Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students will be able to:
1 Understand the theoretical parameters and the applications of the different transmission
media such as transmission line and radio wave propagation.
2 Illustrate propagation of signals in using radio propagation techniques, transmission lines,
waveguides in the fiber optics media.
3 Demonstrate the basic properties and characteristics of various types of antenna system and
the applications of each type of antenna.
4 Design an antenna system used for VHF and UHF applications.
5 Apply the different transmission media in designing telecom and ICT infrastructures.
c. Student Outcomes Addressed by the Course
Students will be able to:
a. apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering to solve complex engineering
problems
b. identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems
c. design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze, and interpret data, and synthesize
information to provide valid conclusions for investigating complex problems
d. Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
in complex engineering activities
i. function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in
multidisciplinary setting
