VALMORES, John Lester N.

BS Civil Engineering 3

4. a. In order to improve the quality of measurements during fieldworks, I have to

measure a particular distance several times. After that I will get the mean of these
values. This will ensure that my measurements are accurate. Taking time to
measure and reading carefully the instruments are another ways of improving the
values of measurement. These will also guarantee that my observed measurements
are close to the true value.

b. Leveling is the most important thing Ive learned in elementary surveying that
will be helpful in my future profession. Leveling is necessary in the planning and
designing of roads, highways, railroads and canals. Also it is helpful in grading the
soil which is always done in building construction.

c. I have to be flexible in working. Being flexible not only in surveying, which has
many task to do like being the rodman, the tapeman and the instrumentman, but
also to my members. Sometimes I have to consider that some of my teammates
may not know how to become an instrumentman. If thats the case, then I will try to
understand his/her situation and guide him/her on how to perform that task.
Teamwork is not ending in dividing the tasks among the members and perform it
just it is, it starts in helping each other during in times of need and confusion.

d. In order to improve coordination among my teammates, first thing to do is to

plan. Planning is important for us to know what to do and to avoid confusion on how
are we going to survey. Giving the assigned task to the members is part in the
planning. Another thing is we have to improve our communication. This will make
our surveying clear and faster.

e. My expectations for this course have been met. Ive learned many things in this
subject. I can say that it exceeded my expectations hahahaha. The lecture part of
the course is great. The instructor is good in teaching. If the student didnt follow
the procedure on how to solve a particular problem, he is willing to repeat again in
order for that student understand the lesson. The laboratory part is the most
exciting. We have many fieldworks during midterms. We even had the opportunity
to conduct survey outside the school. Its a great experience. However, some of our
instruments used are not functioning well. Especially the automatic levels during
prelims are not functioning well aside from there is a shortage of that kind of
instrument. It also disappointing for having measuring tapes that are not in good
condition. But despite from these problems in instruments, overall, Ive learned a
lot!
