IhaveaLogitechwirelesslasermouseandafterayearorsoofuse,theleft
clickbuttonwoulddoubleclickeverytimeItriedtosingleclicksomething.As
canbeimagined,thisgetsfrustratingveryfast.So,beingthetinkererthatIam,I
decidedtoopenherupandseeifitcouldberepaired.Sureenough,It'sapretty
simplefix,ifyouhavesomecommontoolsandateaspoon(edit:atablespoon)of
patience.Therearesomeverysmallpartsinvolved,soyouwillwanttomake
sureyouwareworkinginawelllit,cleanenvironmentsothatanypartsthatare
droppedcanbeeasilyfound.Ihavenowperformedthisfixforthethirdtimeand
decidedtotakepicturesthistimetosharewithotherswhomayfindthisuseful.

cover,andremovethebatteriesfromthemouse.

together.Thesescrewsarelocatedunderneaththeslidepadsontheunderside
ofthemouse.Toremovetheslidepads,gentlyprytheedgeofthepadupwitha
smallflatheadscrewdriverandpeelitoff.Theyareheldinplacewithsomesort
ofadhesive.

Step3:removescrews

Removethefourscrewswithasmallphilipsheadscrewdriver.

Step4:openherup

Atthispointthetopcovershouldliftoff,revealingthemouse'sinnards.

Step5:locatetheclickmechanismthatiscausingthe
problem(usuallyleftclick)

Dependingonthemouse,therecanbeone,orseveralclickmechanisms.This
particularmousehas6,withtheleftandrightclickbeingthemainmechanism.
Theleftclickistheonecausingmeproblems,andislikelytheoneyouare
lookingforalso.Locatethismechanismsowecancontinuetherepair.
Beforeyouproceed,besuretonoticetheverytinywhitebuttonlocatedonthe
topcover.Thiswillfallloosewhenthecoverisremoved,andyouwillwanttobe
sureyouretainthispiecetobereinstalledlater.

Thisiswherethepatiencecomesintoplay.Thisisprobablythemosttedious
andtimeconsumingpartoftherepair.
Toreinstallthetensionspring,firstattachittothesmallhookatthefrontofthe
mechanism,asshowninthepicture.Thenusetheflatheadscrewdrivertopush
thecurvedtabintoplacewhilekeepingtherearofthespringunderthesmall
armattherearofthemechanism.Thesecondpictureshowswhatitshouldlook
likeafterbeingreinstalled.Noticethearrowspointingtothespotsthatneedthe
mostattention.Youwantallthreetobecorrectorthemechanismwillnot
operateproperly.

Step9:reassembletheclickmechanismandtest

Next,youwillneedtoreassembletheclickmechanism.Firstreinstallthetiny
whitebuttonintothemechanismcover(youdidremembertofindandsetaside
thetinybuttonright?).Theeasiestwaytodothisisbydroppingorplacingitinto
thecoverwithapairoftweezers.Withonehand,pickupthecoverwhile
keepingitupsidedownsothebuttonstaysinplace.Withtheotherhand,pickup
themousebody,turnitupsidedown,andpushthecoverbackintoplace.Doing
itthiswaywillinsurethatthetinywhitebuttonstaysinplacewhilethe
mechanismisputbacktogether.
Atthispoint,beforereassemblingthemouse,setitdownonthetable,andgive
thetinywhitebuttonafewtestclicks.Youshouldnoticethatitismakingacrisp
clicksoundwhenpressed,andthatitnowspringsbackwithmoreforcethanit
didbefore.Ifyouarenothearingandfeelingadifference,youmayneedtoopen
themechanismbackupandtryretentioningthespringagain.
Ifallseemswell,thangoaheadandputthemousetopbackinplace,reinstall
the4mainscrews,andputtheslidepadsbackinplace.Ifthereisnotenough
adhesivelefttokeeptheslidepadson,youcanaddsomemore.Regularelmers

secondattempt).
Actually
youjustneedtoincreasethestrengthofthecurvedpart(thespring),
soyoucanuseasteelruleorwhatevertoslightlyflattenthecurved
spring,thenputitbackonthecontacts.
Afteryouflattenedthespring,itwillbeharderforyoutoputitbackonthetiny
switch.
Idon'thavetweezerswithme,Iusedapairofnoseplierstoputthespringback
inplace.Mymouseislikenewagain.

Reinstalltensionspring,you(1)placethecurvedtab(which
isinthemiddleofthespring)atanangleonthetinyledgeof
themetalpieceonthemechanismfirst,then(2)hookthe
springontothefrontpartofthemechanism,beforefinally(3)
slidingthespringbeneaththerearpartofthemechanism?
Ididnothavemuchluckwiththeoriginalactionseriesof2
13untilItried123andthewholespringjustslidintoplace
whilepivotingonthemiddlecurvedtab.

testinginSafeMode,nothingchanged.Beingmechanically

theyears,I've"repaired"manyelectricalswitchessimplyby

thenpleasereadthis:
Icompletelyruinedbothmybuttonsattemptingthisfix.It
tookmemultiplehoursandwhenIwasdonethebuttons
didnotevenclickanymore.IknowImangledoneofthe
metalpiecesprettybadly.Thisismostlyduetomyfat
fingersandtheprecisionrequired,makingmewantto
screamthewholetime.(IthinkIkeptmyselfinprettygood
controldespitethis).
1.TheinstructionsintheOPdescribinghowtoaddtension
tothespringare,inmyopinion,misleading.Ifyoulookat
thepicturesyouwillseethatthestraighterthespringisthe
moretensionitisgoingtoapply.Ididn'trealizethistillafter
Ihadreallymangledone,thoughthatwasmostlydueto
thenextthing.
2.Ifyoutakeoneoftheseoffitisreallyhardtoputback
on.Thisisnotanexaggeration(thoughmaybesomeare
easierthanothers).Iapplaudthepeoplewhosaytheydid
itin1015minutes.IamsureIspentthebetterpartof2
hours.Thereisalittlegrooveintheverticalmetalpin,that
thespringendfitsagainst.NowthatIknowhowitworksI
thinkitmaybeeasiertoputbackonwithaverysmall
needlenoseorsomethinglikethis,butconsideringI
haven'thadaworkingswitchyet,despitedoingthisontwo
differentswitches,Ican'treallysaycanI?Iwoulddefinitely
considertryingthesuggestionsofaddingtensioncarefully
withouttakingthespringsoffbeforeIeverconsidered
takingoneoftheseoffagain,ever.

Greattutorial!Iwasalmostthereputitbacktogetherand
everythingbeforeIwantedtoadjustthespringsome
moreandLOSTIT.Butanewmouseisn'tthatexpensive...
Ihaveawiredmouseandeverythingisbasicallythesame,
exceptIonlyhad2screwssotheshellslippedoffata
weirdangleandIaccidentallybrokealatch(notimportant).
Thetinyboxthatyouneedtoprythelatchesoffisalsoa
littledifferent,butit'sstraightforwardenoughifyoutakethe
entiremotherboardoffsonoplasticpiecesareintheway.I
didn'thavetweezerswithmeeither,butIwasableto
balancethetinybuttonontheflatheadofthescrewdriver.
Alternatively,youcanopenthelatch/boxupsidedownso
youneverhavetodealwiththebuttoncomingout.

letmesayyoucanaddtensiontothepiecewithout
removingit.Simplystickatoothpickunderthecurvedbitof
thetensionerandpushup.Thiswillstraightenthecurvea
bitwhichaddsthetensionthesamethingyouaredoing
whenyouremoveitandthenalteritbutwithoutthechance
ofdamagingthepartinremovalorreinstallation.

Yeahwhendoingthispleaseputyourfingeroverthewhite
button!Unfortunatelyinmycaseitwasred,andwhenI
wastryingtoreleasethesmallblackbox,itflewawaywith
theredbutton(onacarpetanddarkwoodenfloors,at
night).Ittookabout2minutesformetofindtheblackbox,
butafteralmost10minuteslookingforthesmallbuttonI
gaveup.Afterafewsecondslookingatthemouse,I
figuredI'dusethebuttonfromthescrollwheelclick,which
Idon'treallyuseatall.Thistime,Iputmyfingeroverthe
boxandgotitoffwithouteitherofthemflyingaway.But,
whenIwenttoputtheredbuttonintheotherblackbox,it
accidentallyfelltoo.SothistimeIsearchedforabout15
minutesandgaveupagain.Thankgodit'salaptop.I
guesstomorrowI'llsweepthefloorandhopefullyit'llshow
up!
